Edinburgh's United Rugby Championship play-off hopes are all but over after a 33-14 defeat by Stormers in Cape Town.
The hosts recovered after Ntuthuko Mchunu was sent to the sin-bin in the sixth minute and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu missed two penalties.
Stormers scored the first of five tries, four of which were converted, through Evan Roos.
There was an immediate reply from Edinburgh's James Lang, a try converted by Ross Thompson, to level the match at 7-7 at the break.
Leolin Zas restored Stormers' advantage five minutes after the restart, but Feinberg-Mngomezulu's missed kick meant Boan Venter's converted try put Edinburgh ahead.
However, three tries in the final 17 minutes from Mchunu, Roos and Deon Fourie moved the home side to within four points of leaders Glasgow Warriors.
Edinburgh, meanwhile, are 17 points adrift of the top eight with just four rounds of regular-season fixtures remaining.
