Championship: Yorkshire Carnegie 35-29 Jersey Reds

A spirited display by an injury-ravaged Jersey squad saw them push unbeaten Yorkshire Carnegie all the way at Headingly before narrowly losing 35-29.

Jersey took two points from an open game as a result of Jack Macfarlane's second try six minutes from the end, which Brendan Cope converted.

Macfarlane had opened the scoring inside two minutes from a rolling maul.

Cope scored Jersey's other first-half try, when Carnegie were reduced to 14 men, with prop Lewis Boyce in the bin.

In between those tries, the home side scythed through the Jersey defence to score through centre Andy Forsyth, wing Seb Stegmann and number eight Ollie Stedman, with Joe Ford converting two and kicking a penalty.

The sides continued to trade scores in the second half, Forsyth scoring Carnegie's bonus-point try after Ross Adair had cut Jersey's deficit to three points with a fine finish wide on the right and Cope again converted.

Carnegie appeared to have sealed a decisive win when full-back Steve McColl touched down in the corner, but Ford missed the conversion and left the door open for Jersey to get the reward their performance merited.
