Redruth boss Steve Larkins hails player away commitment

Redruth head coach Steve Larkins has praised the commitment of his players.

The Reds regularly have round-trips of over 500 miles for their away matches and have won just once away all season.

"I understand where some of the players are coming from, they've got to work and they have family commitments," Larkins told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"But generally they've been pretty good this year and most people are available most of the time, which is what we want," he added.

"We're not professional players, we're not even semi-professional players. So to say to them 'can you travel to the other end of the country' for an hour and a half of rugby - leaving on Friday night and getting back in the early hours of Sunday morning - is a pretty big commitment."

Redruth travel to sixth-placed Bishops Stortford looking for their first away win since they beat Southend on the opening day of the season, having beaten third-placed Taunton last week.

"They came down to us with a good record and we managed to beat them quite convincingly at home, so I'm sure they don't want the double to happen," Larkins said.

"I don't think many teams have beaten them at Bishops this year and they've turned over all the top teams, so we're under no illusions that they're going to be pretty strong at home this week," he added.
