Danny Brough slotted a dramatic late drop goal against his former side as Wakefield edged a topsy-turvy derby against Huddersfield Giants.
Reece Lyne's early score gave Trinity the perfect platform but England winger Jermaine McGillvary crossed to level.
The first of two Darnell McIntosh tries helped put Giants 10-4 ahead.
David Fifita then added a barnstorming try before McIntosh went over, but Fifita powered through again and Brough's boot earned victory.
Brough's nerveless late kick ensured a fifth win in nine for Wakfield this season and strengthened their place in the top four, while Huddersfield remain 10th.
Matchwinner Brough also created the opening score of the match, flinging a pass out wide for Lyne to touch down.
But, after Brough pulled the conversion wide, the visitors scored 10 unanswered points to lead at the break.
McGillvary went over in the corner to level the scores, Oliver Russell kicked a goal soon after and McIntosh cleverly ran through a gap in the home defence to make it 10-4 at half-time.
Wakefield made too many unforced errors early in their sets in the first part of the second period, but drew level after Fifita stormed over from 20 metres with a typically powerful run that was converted by Brough.
Trinity then dallied in defence and McIntosh went over from a reverse kick for his second try.
Russell added the extras, but the influential Brough found Fifita who once again barged his way over the line and Brough's cool kick earned victory with three minutes left.
Wakefield head coach Chris Chester on David Fifita:
"He's going to cost us a few more quid after tonight. He's already talking about it in the dressing room. I thought his second stint was unbelievable, to score those tries that he did.
"Huddersfield did a really good job on him in that first 25 minutes. When we brought him off I think he'd done 26 tackles and they made him do some work that he probably didn't want to do. So we decided to get him off a little bit earlier.
"He was great for us. He was the best player on the pitch."
Huddersfield head coach Simon Woolford:
"It's very tough to take. We put a lot of effort into that first half and if we were a little bit better we could have gone into half-time further in front.
"We did a good job on Fifita for the majority of the game but the more ball and field position they had in the second half he came into the game and hurt us. It's disappointing."
