Castleford stunned Wigan with a spectacular second-half comeback as they hit back after successive defeats.
Wigan raced into a 20-0 lead after just 22 minutes with four tries but were later disrupted by injuries to Jarrod Sammut and Joe Greenwood.
Castleford rallied to narrow the half-time deficit to 24-8 and took the lead early in the second half after three tries in just six minutes.
But Peter Mata'utia's five goals and late try ensured Cas claimed victory.
Wigan looked to have withstood the second-half onslaught when Joe Burgess went over for his second try to restore their lead with 15 minutes to play.
But it was Castleford centre Tuoyo Egodo who edged the hosts back ahead at 30-28 with five minutes remaining before Mata'utia sealed the win in the closing seconds.
It was an unhappy first return for Wigan's Zak Hardaker, a former fans favourite at Castleford until his dismissal for testing positive for cocaine in the lead-up to the 2017 Super League Grand Final.
The full-back kicked just two of his six attempts on goal as the visitors missed the chance to climb into the top five with a third straight win.
They appeared in total control as Greenwood, a brace from Oliver Gildart, George Williams and Burgess all went over in the first half.
As well as Mata'utia and Egodo, Tigers had Oliver Holmes, Calum Turner, Mitch Clark, Matt Cook and Adam Milner to thank for their seven tries.
Castleford coach Daryl Powell: "I need a Guinness and a good sleep. I thought we were pretty good in the first half in lots of areas but obviously our right edge got exposed a fair a bit.
"It looked like the game was going away from us but I thought we showed a lot of character, toughness and resilience.
"It was fitting that Tuoyo, who had a pretty rough first half, scored the winning try. It was a massive win for us."
Wigan coach Adrian Lam: "It was a great game of rugby to be fair. I thought we were brilliant in the first half. We completed at 90% but we let in a couple of soft tries towards the end.
"We didn't touch the ball for 17 minutes in the second half and we got gassed a bit from that. We had a lot of young players out there and I knew at some stage we would be under the pump. We had one sub with 30 minutes to go.
"I'm really proud of their efforts, we had a couple of 18 and 19-year-olds and, if had had one or two more leaders out there, might have been able to handle that a bit better. We won the game twice but they did roll us through the middle."
