Challenge Cup winners Catalans Dragons got a rude awakening a week on from the club's finest hour at Wembley as they got hit by six Castleford tries.

Greg Eden led the way with a hat-trick as Cas eased to a second straight Super 8s win to lift themselves back above Warrington into third in the table.

Michael Shenton, Jake Trueman and Oliver Holmes, after a classic defence-to-attack move, also crossed.

Luke Gale also kicked six goals on his return after four months out.

Last season's Man of Steel, who had been missing with a fractured knee-cap, showed some of his best touches as Daryl Powell's side enjoyed their second big home win over Catalans this season, having also won 41-0 back in April.

Catalans were without four of their Wembley heroes from last weekend's victory over Warrington.

They cored their only try through centre Brayden Wiliame, who then became the second of two successive yellow cards for the Dragons, following Julian Bousquet into the sin bin for a piece of indiscipline.

Castleford, chasing a top-two finish and subsequent home semi-final, are now back to within three points of Wigan, who stunned St Helens on Friday night.

The Tigers, who also used the versatile Ben Roberts from the bench after 11 matches out with a dual injury, virtually guaranteed a top-four finish.

Castleford head coach Daryl Powell:

"This puts us in a fantastic position. We have got four games left to build momentum. But we are in a great position already which is awesome, based on what has happened to us this year.

"Luke Gale and Ben Roberts fitted in seamlessly. Galey has trained like he has never been away. And Benny did way more minutes than I expected. It's great to have them both back. Competition for places is going to be tough until the end of the season if we can keep everyone fit and healthy.

"Jake Trueman has done an awesome job while Galey has been missing and I can't speak highly enough of him. But you bring high quality players back into the team and they make a difference. Having Galey back is going to be huge for us."

Catalans coach Steve McNamara:

"I am glad to get that out of the way. It's chaotic at the best of times (in Perpignan) but now it has gone to a different level. It's been utter chaos.

"When your chairman is receiving calls from the chairman of Barcelona and the president of Catalonia, then you know what a huge thing it has been. It's great to have been involved in, but it's not conducive to getting ready to play a tough game of Super League away at Castleford.

"Last weekend was such a huge event for the club. We had to celebrate in the right fashion. The club wanted to do that and it is still continuing across there. But on top of everything this was our fifth trip to England in six weeks. Physically and mentally the players are extremely tired."
