American teenager Coco Gauff reached her first Grand Slam final with victory in the French Open last four, setting up a tantalising meeting with world number one Iga Swiatek.

Gauff, 18, won 6-3 6-1 against unseeded Italian Martina Trevisan on the Paris clay in her maiden major semi-final.

Swiatek, 21, completed a serene journey into the Roland Garros final with a 6-2 6-1 win over 20th seed Daria Kasatkina. The Pole earned a 34th successive win to move into her second major final.

Swiatek, the 2020 Roland Garros champion, has dropped just one set this fortnight on the Paris clay.

"It is a pretty special moment and emotional," said Swiatek, who meets Gauff on Saturday. "I am grateful to be healthy and in that place."

Gauff, seeded 18th, was the heavy favourite against Trevisan and has become the youngest finalist at Roland Garros since Kim Clijsters in 2001.

Britain's Andy Murray has moved into the Surbiton Trophy quarter-finals.

Top seed Murray defeated world number 230 Gijs Brouwer of the Netherlands 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-3) in the second round of the Challenger Tour event in London.

This is Murray's first appearance at the Surbiton Trophy since 2004.

The 35-year-old opted to skip the current French Open to prepare for Wimbledon, which starts on 27 June, and will play fifth seed American Brandon Nakashima in the last eight.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Murray, now ranked 67th in the world, was 17 when he last played in Surbiton's grass-court tournament.

  5. 'I'm going to be happy regardless'published at 17:27 BST 2 June 2022

    Trevisan 3-6 1-6 Gauff

More from Coco Gauff, who says: "I played her [Martina Trevisan] two years ago and lost so I know how difficult she is to play, especially on clay."

On the final, 18-year-old Gauff says: "I'm in a mind set where I'm going to be happy regardless. My parents will love me regardless.

"There are so many things going on in the world, especially in the US, it's important to not stress over a tennis match."

  6. 'Peace, end gun violence'published at 17:24 BST 2 June 2022

    Trevisan 3-6 1-6 Gauff

Coco Gauff, who writes "peace end gun violence" on the camera after the match, says: "I think I'm in a bit of shock right now and I didn't know how to react at the end of the match. I have no words to describe how I feel, thank you for cheering me on.

"I've not been nervous all tournament which is surprising. In the morning I go for a walk and that clears my head and after that I feel great.

"When I play a player like her [Trevisan], you have to be patient. Being American, growing up hitting hard and I have to remind myself 'not to attack this one'."

Coco Gauff has been too solid in the backhand corner today.

We've seen her for a few years and it's easy to forget how young she is.

If she was new and 18, on this sort of run, we'd be non-stop talking about her.

A hold to love from Coco Gauff as she consolidates that break of serve and is now only two games away from being in a Grand Slam final at the age of 18.

    Trevisan 3-6 1-3 Gauff*

Coco Gauff will be in the French Open final if she holds her serve from now on. She is now a set and a break up after a lengthy rally, which she slowly gains control of.

She's moving Trevisan around the court and then capitalises with a bullet forehand winner to take the break at the fourth time of asking.

    *Trevisan 3-6 1-2 Gauff

Trevisan has already fended off two break points in this game and a fine two-handed forehand down the line finds the corner to save a third one. Deuce again, Trevisan hanging on, just, in a game that has gone past the 10-minute mark.

    *Trevisan 3-6 1-2 Gauff

A third double fault from Trevisan gives Gauff a second break point. It's a fine rally with the ball flicking up off the tape from a Gauff effort, before Trevisan keeps it alive and provides a fine passing forehand with Gauff at the net looking to finish it off. Deuce once more.
