Five great shots as Andy Murray beats Kei Nishikori in epic battle
That is your lot from the O2 from an afternoon session that bled so far into the evening it was pretty much a full transfusion.
See you later when we will have full radio commentary of Marin Cilic v Stan Wawrinka.
Bye.

Andy Murray has always had this inner steel and that's what he needed today to get over the line.
I'd like to know what he thinks of the conditions because normally he has a great feel for the ball, but he wasn't timing his shots in the first set and Nishikori made things difficult for him.

All just a bit of fun remember...

LKH: Oh... Kei... Oh... Kei... you worked hard today. Beat Cilic Friday and you'll be O Kei.
So....
Andy Murray needs Marin Cilic to beat Stan Wawrinka to be sure of his place in the last four.
Why?
Well, because if Wawrinka wins then it is conceivable that Murray, Nishikori and Wawrinka could all end up on two wins and a defeat in the final standings on Friday evening.
Then we are into a world of sets won and lost and the grey matter really starts frying.
A Cilic win means that only he OR Nishikori can match Murray's minimum of two wins and a defeat.
Got it?

Here is the moment Andy Murray won the third set and the match against Kei Nishikori.

As the clock ticked past the three-hour mark there was much rummaging and online searching for past epics at this event - Murray's defeat by Nadal in 2010 was fresh in most minds at three hours and 12 minutes.
Murray is by now well used to playing, and recovering from, lengthy matches but he will surely feel this one in his legs the further he progresses.
Among the myriad stats, a first-serve percentage of 54% goes some way to explaining why he got dragged into such an epic. Not that the afternoon crowd are complaining.

They have similar types of games, move incredibly well, and for Murray the result and the performance are two different things. He didn't play well so it's brilliant for him to get the win.

Andy Murray: "I just fought really hard. Kei was making me run and was dictating the points, but then I was starting to get a few free points on my serve and made him work hard on his return.
"I eventually got over the line. These are the sort of matches you work so hard for.
"I feel OK right now, but it is the following day when you feel it often. Hopefully there will be another three days to this season and I'll do my best to get through them."

The highlights reel might not stretch as long as some matches, but that was proper trench warfare.
Engrossing stuff.

Stephanie Siu: Come on Andy, finish this. I've shirked my responsibilities long enough already.
Josh Cook: If whichever of these two is playing Friday night, could keep it shorter than this I'd appreciate it, I'll have a train to catch.

A thick net cord sends Kei Nishikori's forehand up, up, up and long.
But he has another courtesy of that bullwhip of a forehand.
*Murray 6-7 (9-11) 6-4 5-2 Nishikori
Kei Nishikori wins the first point with a dabbed volley into the open court. 0-15.
And a ripped rocket of a forehand down the line makes it 0-30.
Nishikori has nothing to lose and he is playing with the freedom of condemned man.
A fraction long from the Japanese challenger on the next rally. 15-30. And a blurring serve from Murray makes it 30-30.
But Nishikori funnels a forehand down the line to bring up break point.
Stay right where you are.
