Well what a superb climax to the Masters.

A bit like when he won the world championship a few years back, Stuart Bingham becomes the oldest Masters winner after defeating Ali Carter 10-8 in a gripping encounter.

Ali Carter didn't expect too much of himself coming here but I think he can take great heart from how he has played and use it as a springboard.

An emotional Stuart Bingham on BBC Two says:

"This is unbelievable. Ali [Carter] started so well I was starting to think about what to say after being beaten. How I turned it around I don't know. I can't explain how I feel.

"I have won seven major tournaments now and I want to get to 10. Hopefully one will be the UK Championship and I will go into the history books for winning the Triple Crown.

"I've really enjoyed the week and I think that's the key to my game and why I can perform like that.

"I am shattered. I've had about nine hours sleep in two days. Every time he was scoring I was sitting in my chair thinking this is getting really comfy. To get my hands on this means the world."

Stuart Bingham played himself into form in this tournament and withstood a lot of things thrown at him.

Under pressure he held his nerve and his cueing stood the test.

People will stop saying Bingham was a fluke to win the World Championship. He's backed it up and proven he's top class.

Stuart Bingham says "he's shattered" while speaking on BBC Two.

Apparently he's had nine hours sleep in the last couple of days. So does that mean no partying this evening?

With a winners cheque of £250,000 on it's way, not sure how realistic that is.

Masters runner-up Ali Carter speaking on BBC Two: "I've turned up and one better than I expected to be honest. Very disappointed to not win but he was the better player. I have to say all the right things but I am gutted.

"The interval swung the match. I was on fire to win those four frames. I look back at the pink but I've missed one ball in four frames."

Yes he can. What a superb conclusion to Stuart Bingham's evening.

He can't get position though so lays a snooker behind the yellow.

This is utterly compelling. Watching Stuart Bingham and Ali Carter asses each shot is enthralling now.

Not a bad match is it! Carter is on the ropes and then produces a break like that. It really concentrates the mind knowing it's your last-chance saloon and can't afford to miss. That was a brilliant frame of snooker.

Ali [Carter] has the Ally Pally on it's feet. A brilliant break of 77 to reduce his arrears.

Is this going to end up in a deciding frame. We haven't had one for a decade.
