London Irish's Blair Cowan says he is "super proud of the boys" in the post-match interviews and rightly so.

Other than Bristol's big win on Friday, there's barely been anything between the rest of the opening weekend's fixtures, with just two or three points proving the difference.

What a great way to start the Premiership season. We've had to wait for it this year, but it's been well worth it.

Wasps really put Irish under pressure in that second half as they went in search of the win, but they defended stoutly and deserved their victory.

The home side will probably look back at the opening stages of the second half when they started slowly after the break and gave themselves too much to do.

Jack Willis was excellent for Wasps and the electric Zach Kibirige was unfortunate not to get a hat-trick, but Irish take the spoils.

As a promoted side, you can't over emphasise the importance of getting points on the board early. That could prove vital later in the season.

They've done it! A win in their opening game back in the Premiership for London Irish.

It wasn't easy at the end as they lost possession with the clock about to turn red and had to defend for their lives but they did just that and can finally celebrate when Wasps cough the ball up.

What a win for Irish.

Irish do a great job of disrupting the Wasps driving maul and most importantly, secure possession with just seconds to go.

That could be it for Wasps.

A high tackle gives Wasps a chance to pump it forward – but they make a mess of the line-out and Irish have possession.

Yes it is – and Wasps have a final opportunity for the win as Jacob Umaga kicks deep into Irish territory.

But covering full-back Tom Parton stretches and makes a brilliant last-ditch challenge to put the wing in touch.

Kibirige was millimetres away from his hat-trick.

Wasps kick wide with penalty advantage in their pocket and Irish full-back Tom Parton slaps the ball down, preventing Zach Kibirige from claiming the ball - and his hat-trick.

He wasn't really ever in a position to catch that.

Has Parton got away with one there? Potential penalty try? No yellow card forthcoming.

Things going from bad to worse for Wasps.

Not going anywhere thanks to strong Irish defence, Marcus Watson puts boot to ball, but it goes out on the full and back we go.

They need a bit of inspiration from somewhere quickly.

In case you missed the action earlier today, we now know the full line-up for next weekend's World Cup semi-finals.

Wales needed a late try from Ross Moriarty to overcome 14-man France after trailing throughout the game.

And they will now face South Africa, who powered their way to a 26-3 victory over hosts Japan, on Sunday.

England will meet New Zealand in Saturday's first semi-final following comprehensive wins over Australia and Ireland respectively yesterday.

It's been a compelling weekend of Premiership rugby already, which started with Bristol running in seven tries on Friday to thump Bath.

But the drama did not end there as in Saturday's four games James Grayson's last-minute penalty earned Northampton victory at champions Saracens.

There were also home victories for Exeter and Worcester, while Gloucester battled back from 13-0 down to win at Sale.

As the score suggests, it's been an even contest with both sides showing quality in attack but neither holding the upper hand for an extended period.

Jack Willis has been a turnover machine for the home side and Zach Kibirige grabbed a couple of tries for his highlights reel.

For Irish, they look slick with ball in hand and Number 8 Albert Tuisue looks a real handful.

Paddy Jackson's penalty after that late James Gaskell infringement sees the visitors take a slender lead into the changing rooms.

Wasps just have to keep the ball for another 20 seconds and it's half-time but James Gaskell holds onto the ball on the ground, to give Paddy Jackson an opportunity to put Irish up at the break.

He accepts the gift and that will be incredibly frustrating for the Wasps management.
