    Estonia 0-1 Northern Ireland

Job done in Tallinn with a win, a clean sheet and no injuries.

    So, Switzerland.

A game with this much riding on it, in an atmosphere like the one we'll see on Wednesday, is what we missed so much about sport last year and I think that adds to what is already palpable excitement.

We will see you back here then, with text commentary and radio coverage from 19:30 BST.

Have a read of the report from tonight's game here to whet your appetite.

    See you Wednesday!

On a wider note, that goal has the significance of adding to Northern Ireland's momentum as they gear up for Switzerland.

Back-to-back wins for Ian Baraclough's side, a first in his reign, and playing time for the vast majority of the squad through two games.

What was on its way to being an utterly forgettable friendly has been given some decent meaning by one magical swing of a leg.

    The whistle goes.

A game to be remembered for one thing and one thing alone, what a strike from Shane Ferguson.

Ooh, Estonia nearly strike back with a late screamer of their own.

It's lovely stuff from Markus Poom (son of Mart), spins past Paddy McNair with a sumptuous touch before lacing an effort goalward. It fizzes a centimetre over the bar.

The British ambassador to Estonia is in the crowd. I wonder is he behind the aforementioned Northern Ireland chants at A. Le Coq Arena?

  8. Food for thought from Charles?published at 18:43 BST 5 September 2021

    Mark Sterling

A lively striker is never not welcome, but it has been particularly refreshing to see Dion Charles making the impact he has since coming off the bench for Kyle Lafferty.

Leading the line, running the channels, pressing defenders. He looks like a proper old-school centre-forward.

You kind of feel that Shayne Lavery and Conor Washington are certs to start against Switzerland after doing so well in Lithuania but Charles can do more than plant a seed in Ian Baraclough's head - and he is doing just that with his energy.

Hahaha. Shane Ferguson just had another go from the same position, if that had gone in he'd have had to start up front on Wednesday.

As it happens this time it went over by some distance, it came about after more lively play from Conor Bradley and another pleasing link-up with Gavin Whyte, good understanding between those two.

Bradley goes right down the byline and cuts it back for Ferguson's shot.

Conor Hazard has to be alert to stop a shot at his near post down at the other end as Estonia seek a late equaliser.

Conor Bradley, absolutely love the confidence. He's prowling the edge of a box at a corner and when the ball drops to him he doesn't think twice, swings the right foot and connects pretty well with a volley.

It's wide but a good effort. The subs have been good since coming on.

    Oh. My. Goodness.

Shane Ferguson, what a stunning hit.

A strike in no way in keeping with the spectacle, but what a way to mark your 50th appearance.

He's about 30 yards out and has space. He thinks 'why not?' and takes a touch out of his feet and just absolutely leathers it.

It's a beauty, arrows towards the top corner, Matvei Igonen gets a touch on it but can only palm it onto the inside of the post. In it goes.

Nice link-up between Gavin Whyte and Conor Bradley allows Whyte to whip in a nice cross towards Jordan Jones.

The run was clever but the header is well off target.

    Estonia 0-0 Northern Ireland

There are a few strangled chants of "Northern Ireland" coming from the crowd. Either there are some expats in Tallinn, or some people have made the trip.

If it's the latter, you would feel a little bit aggrieved. But then again, if you travel for an international friendly sandwiched between two hugely important qualifiers that's kind of on you.

Dion Charles is in the book for catching Kuusk in the face as he tried to take the ball down.

    Estonia 0-0 Northern Ireland

Trevor Carson is about to come off, but he's delivered a parting gift with a strong save there to keep the scores level.

Erik Sorga is played in after a loose touch from Jordan Jones, he does the right thing in driving it low towards the far corner but Carson is down with a strong hand.

And with that he takes his leave. Conor Hazard is getting half an hour in nets with Conor Bradley coming on as well.

    Estonia 0-0 Northern Ireland

Conor Bradley looks to be preparing to come on. A good half hour for the exciting Liverpool youngster if he is brought on shortly.

Similar to the opening exchanges of the first half, Northern Ireland have seen nearly nothing of the ball.

    Estonia 0-0 Northern Ireland

Hello. Estonia have come to play in the second half.

Vlasiy Sinyavskiy skips past Paddy McNair and whips in a pearler of a cross which is just out of Erik Sorga's reach.

A couple of early second half changes for Northern Ireland. With one eye on Wednesday Jamal Lewis is withdrawn for Shane Ferguson and Dion Charles is on for a frustrated Kyle Lafferty.

It's a great first-time ball in. Flanagan has leaned on him a bit, which knocked him off his stride or it could have been going it at the front post. It's good defending and it's the first good pass of the match to open the defence up.

    Chance!

Lovely ball from Kuusk to pick out Anier on the right, he plays the ball hard and low into the near post where Erik Sorga has got the run on Tom Flanagan but can't wrap his foot around the ball enough to direct it goalward as his effort goes wide.

Flanagan probably did just enough to stop Sorga getting hold of that properly. Estonia have looked good since the restart.
