At the start I said we'd be finding out the first Ulster SFC finalists of 2019 today.

That was wrong.

After 90 (yes, 90) minutes of action Cavan and Armagh simply could not be separated.

Clones was looking rather resplendent today with all the fans filling out the stands, and I imagine it will be the same again when these two meet again at the same venue next Sunday.

"Just a brilliant, brilliant game. It tailed off a little towards the end but I thought the quality from both teams was fantastic.

"I think both teams showed some inexperience today, which is understandable given how big a game it was for them.

"At times possession was thrown away a little too easily so there were huge learnings from both sides. It's going to be just as tough to predict again next week."

A brief recap:

After an even first half, Jarly Og Burns scored a goal that put Armagh in the driving seat.

Cavan then had Ciaran Brady sent off before mounting a Cian Mackey-inspired fightback to send the game into extra-time.

In the 20 additional minutes that followed, both sides could only muster one point each as the game ended as a draw, meaning we will have a replay in Clones next Sunday.

There will be a replay of this semi-final next Sunday. Yeah, that is is the same day as the Monaghan v Fermanagh qualifier.

Not good for the blood pressure for those of an Armagh or Cavan persuasion, but for the neutrals, we can look forward to some more of that. Great fun.

"It certainly looks like a replay now and Armagh have only themselves to blame.

"They were playing with fire by trying to hold onto the ball in their own half, they needed to take the game to Cavan and instead they got caught out."

Armagh cough up possession and it goes through, McVeety, McKiernan to that man Mackey.

For the third time today he finds a stunning score from beyond 40 yards. That's class at any time, but in a situation like this, it's stunning.

Conor Moynagh is black carded for a high challenge. He's cramping up as he goes off so perhaps he'd have been replaced anyway, he has been brilliant today.

Jamie Clarke has dropped right back into midfield now as Armagh seek to control this one until the final whistle.

Armagh by a point as we head down the final stretch.

Ben Crealey brings Armagh into double figures for wides.

Charlie Vernon does well to hold off Cian Mackey before finding Jamie Clarke inside. It works its way to Stefan Campbell (who is back on, obviously) who just motors through the Cavan defence and fists over. Huge roar from the Armagh support.

My colleague has just pointed out that our last point in this one came 45 minutes ago. That includes the breaks of course but still, what was a relatively free-flowing game has encountered a bit of a drought.

Tension is a funny old thing.

"Decision making and tiredness are going to come to the fore here now.

"Who is going to be able to step forward and create some chances and take those chances? You just get the sense that that's going to be the difference."

A very strange first half that both sides have rather allowed to pass them by.

Halfway through extra-time and it's the same score as it was at the end of the 70 minutes.

10 minutes gone in extra-time and neither side has managed to score.

Paul Graham plays a sloppy pass indicative of what we've seen since the restart, it falls straight to Rian O'Neill whose effort is equally wayward.
