Nottingham Forest must hope this is a blip as their attention turns to next week's mouthwatering FA Cup tie with Leicester.

Their first defeat in four league games means they miss the chance to climb into the play-off places and stay eighth.

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper tells Sky Sports: "We've only got ourselves to blame, not winning today.

"Technically we weren't at the level to create or score. We just didn't create enough.

"We were turned over and got done on the counter-attack. We turned the ball over too many times.

"We have to put this one to bed and learn from it."

On Lewis Grabban's injury, Cooper adds: "It doesn't look good. He's in a lot of pain."

Cardiff City manager Steve Morison tells Sky Sports: "It's huge. We know we need to win games, especially with teams around us losing.

"We brought those players in because the players we had needed help and, to a man, I thought they were outstanding.

"We've been heavily reliant on players from the academy and the reality is they need help. We need players to come in and help them flourish.

"They know the pressure is not all on them now and they can take the shackles off."

It wasn't to be today for Forest and their large contingent of travelling supporters.

Man of the match and Cardiff City goal scorer Jordan Hugill tells Sky Sports: "That debut couldn't have gone any better.

"The win, a great team performance and the goal to top it off.

"The lads left everything out on that pitch.

"I just tried to keep my finish down. It was a little bit scuffy but it was nice to score.

"It's a massive win. All credit to the lads who've put in a massive shift."

We got the full package from Cardiff this afternoon against a really good Nottingham Forest team.

Typical Cardiff at the end. The only disappointment is that they didn't get the clean sheet.

It's by far the best Cardiff City performance I've seen this season.

Steve Morison is sticking to low-key celebrations on the touchline, but that is a huge win for Cardiff City.

There was no clean sheet thanks to that late Keinan Davis goal, but the three points are what count for a Cardiff side who began the day with the worst home record in the Championship.

Jordan Hugill enjoyed a goalscoring debut, while Isaak Davies tapped in what proved to be the winner.

Forest have been so good, so often in recent times, but this was a bad day for Steve Cooper's team.

Cardiff have a chance to score a third goal, but Isaak Davies delays his pass to Tommy Doyle and that allows Max Lowe to make a recovery challenge.

There will be six minutes of added time.

If Cardiff can hold out in stoppage time against 10 men, they will have a clean sheet for the first time in 25 games.

This has been the best I've seen Cardiff play this season in all aspects.

The team selection was brave, putting the new signings in, but the manager has got it absolutely spot on and got the performance he was looking for.

Lewis Grabban is being helped off the pitch with that ankle issue.

That looks like rounding off a miserable day for Forest, who have no substitutes left so will finish with 10 men.
