Manchester City will be Premier League leaders at the turn of the year for the third time, after 2011-12 and 2017-18. They went on to win the title in both of those seasons.

The team top of the Premier League table at the turn of the year has gone on to win the title in eight of the last 12 seasons.

So everyone else might as well pack up and go home.

We're back tomorrow for another game in this already-decided league.

    See you then!

  3. 'With the injuries we have it was impressive'published at 23:13 GMT 29 December 2021

    FT: Brentford 0-1 Man City

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank, speaking to BBC Sport: "I am very proud of the boys and the performance. I am proud of the fans. That first-half was a masterclass in defending. We knew City would have the ball a lot. That is what they do. They way we closed them down, in the half spaces on the side gave them almost no opportunities. They had one chance in the half, a world class cross from De Bruyne and a marginal onside for Foden. That is all we gave away. We had three marvellous opportunities that we need to take. We should be in front. Second-half, we struggle more to create. We see they have torn teams apart. We only gave them two half chances. They are the richest club with the best players. It doesn't matter if they play Foden or Sterling, Grealish or Mahrez. We lacked six or of normal starters. Impressive.

"I am so proud of the year 2012, the promotion that we have al been part of. We beat Arsenal here, went toe-to-toe with Liverpool, should have beaten Chelsea. Now we should have had a point against City.

"I always want more. We are not thinking about points, we are thinking next game. Looking backwards on the 18 games we should have had more. Plus with all the injuries we had, it is crazy impressive."

  4. 'It is 365 days of being consistent'published at 23:09 GMT 29 December 2021

    FT: Brentford 0-1 Man City

    Manchester City

More from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport: "The important thing is that we stay stable and get results and play good. There are some games when the opponent decide to make an incredible high pressing. It will be difficult. Men to men. When they decide to set back this way, with literally 11 players in the 18 yard box we need to be patient."

On the most Premier League wins in a calendar year: "It means how good was this year. We won the Premier League, Carabao Cup, in the final of the Champions League. It is a big success. Being there. The victories we have done means it is not just one night. It is 365 days of being consistent. This is the best title we can get as a team."

So, Pep Guardiola has recorded a winning run of at least 10 Premier League matches for the fourth time.

No other manager has done this more than twice in the Premier League era.

City have also set English top flight records for most total victories (36) and most away wins (19) in a single calendar year.

They broke the previous records of 33 (total) by Liverpool in 1982 and 17 (away) by Spurs in 1960.

  6. '54 points to play for'published at 23:04 GMT 29 December 2021

    FT: Brentford 0-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport: "For the way they played it was the best performance. We cannot play better when they play in this way. They were high pressing and it made it difficult for us to build up. After when they defend deep it is incredibly difficult as they are so organised. You cannot go inside as there are no spaces. When a team defend this way it is so difficult. You see how the other teams come here and they suffer. I know it. How many chances they create from corners, from throw-ins. We didn't concede once or a shot on target in the second half.

"People expect that we will score four goals after 23 minutes. That is not the reality, that is the exception. The reality is this type of game. In some games you have to play one way, in others you play a different way. If you play quicker than usual they can make the transition with Ivan Toney and the other guys and you suffer. They create the counter-attacks and fee-kicks and throw-ins and at this they are the best team in the Premier League. Statistically this is the best team. We compete and we adjust something at half-time.

"There are 54 points to play for. It is not expected to have this distance for eight and nine, but Liverpool play one game less. But is is 54 points. In December no one is champion. We are going to lose games. I see in my mind, Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton coming. We have a game in London against Arsenal, maybe one of the top teams right now. The best Arsenal in the last four or five years. I cannot say more than congratulations to the team but we must focus."

  7. 'We lacked that bit of extra quality'published at 22:53 GMT 29 December 2021

    FT: Brentford 0-1 Man City

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, speaking to Amazon Prime: "Absolutely fantastic [performance]. First half, unbelievable, we gave one chance away against Manchester City. We are lacking six of our normal starters. I'm so disappointed we didn't get anything out of it.

"Marginal onside, their goal, we had three very good opportunities that we needed to take, of course. Second half, it's difficult to get near them, we wanted to get higher but they still had only two chances.

"We know we're running after the ball a lot, that is one thing, but I think on the day we lacked that bit of extra quality to make the difference, especially in the second half. We needed to get more out of our set-pieces."

On whether Manchester City are the best team Brentford have faced this season: "It's a good question, either them or Liverpool. In the Premier League, anything can happen, but City are a good side. If they don't have too many injuries, I think they'll win the title."

  8. 'It's a performance we can be proud of'published at 22:45 GMT 29 December 2021

    FT: Brentford 0-1 Man City

    Brentford

Brentford defender Pontus Jansson, speaking to Amazon Prime: "I think we started the game very well, created some good chances. Came close to scoring and it would have been a different game. They scored and that was hard after our good start.

"I can't say we were close to a point but we were in the game, I think it's a performance we can be proud of.

"We play against probably the best team in the world and when they have the lead, they keep possession. I don't think they created that many chances, so apart from their goal I think we defended well.

"When it was 1-0, we know there is always a chance - we fought until the end and it's a performance we can take a lot from."

  9. 'It is the same every match day'published at 22:37 GMT 29 December 2021

    FT: Chelsea 1-1 Brighton

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel taking to Amazon Prime: "Very frustrating and very disappointing because we had enough big chances. Another two changes because of injury. The players are completely exhausted and it is the same every match day. Horrible decisions not even checked.

"We have two injuries again. That's the point, nothing else. Hamstring injury for Reece James. No need to look ahead to Liverpool - we can try to find players who can play. We have no more wing backs and everyone injured.

"We need to digest this and not talk about the next game."

  10. 'I thought I went too early'published at 22:29 GMT 29 December 2021

    FT: Brentford 0-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City's Phil Foden, speaking to Amazon Prime: "It was an important win today. Brentford made it really difficult. They are a physical team and are dangerous off set-pieces. We had to keep going to the final whistle. I am proud of the team for doing that.

"I have had a few this year that have been ruled offside so I wasn't too confident. I thought I went a bit too early, but thank god the goal counted. I am really happy. There were a few when I went a bit early and was offside. We could have won by more. We kept working hard.

"Round Christmas you have to keep your foot on the gas and keep focused. This team is doing that.

"Wherever the manager puts me, I will do my best for the team. I started on the left. It is good I am adaptable.

"This is the most challenging league in the world and it goes to show that you can drop points at any time. The team remain focused and we're happy."

  11. 'Circumstances are against us'published at 22:23 GMT 29 December 2021

    FT: Chelsea 1-1 Brighton

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel talking to BBC: "A draw about right? Absolutely not. We had the better chances and a clear penalty. Very disappointing.

"We are struggling but we have again two injured players. If the ref does not want to give us a penalty when it is a clear 100% penalty... The circumstances are against us. It's a 100% penalty.

"Our players are injured. I told you what would happen weeks ago. Same thoughts, I told you. Sure we are tired, if you had been in bed for 10 days and played Premier League matches after that, you would be tired."

  12. 'To get a point here is big for us'published at 22:19 GMT 29 December 2021

    FT: Chelsea 1-1 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton goal hero Danny Welbeck, speaking to Amazon Prime: "It's a well deserved point. It was a good technical performance as well as a physical one.

"To get a point here is big for us. I was outside warming up at half time so I don't now what the manager said at half-time.

"But we created a lot of chances and we're happy to come away with a point."
