Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: "I think it's a penalty. The boy sticks out his leg, Fernandes does a fantastic Zidane, Maradona turn and he lands on him. I think it's a penalty.

"Going into half-time at 2-0 up we were a bit fortunate. Even at 1-0 I think our defenders would have kept a clean sheet. They took the criticism from last game and performed well."

On Mason Greenwood: "I am doing my bit to help him but he has to do it - turn in performances in training, in games, live his life properly, it's up to him how far he wants to go.

"He's 18, of course he will get better. He is a natural footballer, has been in the academy since he was a little boy, his dad showed me a picture of us when he was seven. He knows we believe in him. You cannot leave players out when they score goals."

On Paul Pogba: "We still have a contract with Paul. He is a fantastic person, fantastic player - one of the best midfielders in the world. It's a different team to the one he left when he was injured. Everything is miles better in that dressing room."

Stuart Attwood: VAR reached another new low tonight. 2 diabolical penalty decisions in Spurs and United games. What is the purpose if it doesn't overturn clear errors?

Henry Ellison: I love watching/following/supporting my football team atm. Ole has done a fantastic job to this team. Fernandes has made a huge difference. Imagine where we would be if we had bought him in the summer instead of faffing about.

Jack Grealish is good enough for a top-six side but if you look at the way Manchester United play now - that one-touch passing, the movement, the pace - the big question about Jack is: does he hold on to the ball too long to draw fouls?

When you play with better players. you probably move the ball quicker because at Aston Villa, he probably feels like everything here centres around 'Jack Grealish.'

He loves the club, he's a supporter, everything is on his shoulders being captain trying to get the club to safety. So, if he moved to a bigger club with better players, he would probably feel the responsibility wouldn't be as great.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, speaking to Sky Sports: "It unravelled with the first goal. We made a bright start, had some chances, they are always a threat on the counter but it all changed round on the penalty decision.

"I can understand Jon (Moss, referee) getting it wrong but I don't know what VAR are looking at - it's a disgraceful decision. They have a screen they can go and look at it but they don't seem to be bothered."

"Unfortunately they were too good for us in the second half with that lead. The second goal was the one, the reaction after the first goal wasn't great, the second goal was the one. If you go in at 1-0 you can gather the troops and go again.

"That's the first time we've had a going over since Project Restart. We are running out of games, the games will be tough but if we get back to the way we have been playing we'll win games."

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has called the decision to give Manchester United the penalty for the opening goal 'disgraceful.'

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, speaking to Sky Sports: "We are really pleased with ourselves because we know we have to carry on. We talk before the game, in training, Manchester is a big club and we want to keep the level up always. The performances of the past few weeks are Manchester United.

"We have to keep working, there is a lot to do."

On Mason Greenwood: "I enjoy to see them play, this kid in training and in the game and will keep pushing him to reach the top, he has so much to do again, he can do even more than what he is doing, he is a talent.

"I have been injured for a very long time, I focused on myself to get back - this year we have two goals, to win the Europa League and the FA Cup, so we focus on that."

Not sure what the lesson is there for Leeds and West Brom etc. Just don't bother coming up?

Aston Villa have gambled on spending the money to stay in the Premier League. We've seen Fulham do it and get relegated. You look at the Norwich philosophy, where they haven't spent hardly any money but they're going to get relegated but financially, they're going to be in a good position next season to maybe have the opportunity of coming back up.

Villa have gone the other way and spent lots of money trying to stay on the Premier League but they are equally as poor as Norwich. So both scenarios haven't worked.

Everton

Everton captain Seamus Coleman told Amazon Prime: "Very much so [it was a let-off]. The first half we didn't get to grips with at all. We were lucky to come in at 1-1. We were second best to everything.

"Second half we changed it a bit, I felt like we were more comfortable. We changed to three at the back. We know we can go long with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. We're disappointed with the point and result."

Brilliant from Manchester United. Brilliant on the counter-attack, dynamic, they just want to score goals and not play it safe. They want to attack at every opportunity. Yes Villa were poor but you can only beat what's in front of you and they should've scored more goals. Once again good performance from Manchester United - Villa in massive, massive trouble.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks speaking to Sky Sports: "I've seen it back [the Kane penalty incident] and I don't understand why we have VAR? It’s a penalty. We can argue we could've done better but ultimately, it’s a penalty.

"We’ve created chances throughout the season but probably defended poorly this season. We still believe in ourselves and we have to fight and keep working as hard as we can to get out of this."

On the North London derby against Arsenal: "It’s a game we need to win for us and the fans. We want to progress higher up in the table to try and challenge for Europe and the Champions League. It’s a game we’ll take seriously and will want to do well."
