Stoke will have gone into tonight all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed after winning their past two matches and going unbeaten in their last four league games - Derby ended all of that.

And the major reason for it was the performance of Rams captain Wayne Rooney, who pulled the strings in midfield and curled in a 20-yard free-kick to help his side to a dominant win.

In south Wales it was much more nip and tuck, with Reading and Cardiff drawing 1-1 for the second time in seven days following their FA Cup fourth-round meeting on Saturday - they'll do it all again on Tuesday night for the replay.

As for us, we'll back with some more EFL live text action at 12:15 GMT tomorrow, when the Championship gets underway with Hull hosting Brentford.

Thanks for joining us and see you then.

Derby captain Wayne Rooney has also been speaking to Sky Sports after the full-time whistle.

"I'm enjoying playing here and feel like I'm getting up to speed," he said.

"I've enjoyed playing in lots of different roles during my career, and playing deeper in midfield here is just another example of that."

Derby midfielder Duane Holmes has been awarded the man of the match award by Sky Sports and has given a touching tribute to his friend Jordan Sinnott, who was tragically killed last weekend.

"Anyone who knew Jordan knew he would do anything for anybody," he said.

"He'd never hurt anyone. I'm just glad we could go out there and perform like that for Jordan tonight like we did."

    An emphatic win for Derby.

Two goals in each half - Martyn Waghorn and Chris Martin before the break, then Wayne Rooney and Jayden Bogle after it.

Rooney with a superb free-kick from 20 yards is probably what takes goal of the night, but Bogle pushed him close.

    FT: Cardiff 1-1 Reading

It's 1-1 again between Cardiff and Reading - just as it was at the Madejski in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Yakou Meite gave the visitors an early lead, but Cardiff get a point thanks to Callum Paterson's close-range finish midway through the second half.

They'll do it all again on Tuesday in their FA Cup replay - if it's 1-1 for a third time, it'll be pens!

Three minutes of injury time at Pride Park. Stoke's players will just want to get on that bus, and forget tonight ever happened.

Into five added minutes in Cardiff. Will someone find a winner?

    Derby 4-0 Stoke

Petering out as you'd expect at Pride Park.

Stoke's Sam Clucas just had a decent opportunity with a free-kick 20 yards out, but it deflected off the top of the wall and away.

    Cardiff 1-1 Reading

Leandro Bacuna's the next player to go close for Cardiff.

He shoots from the edge of the area, but it hits a Reading body and flies just over the bar.

Wayne Rooney is taken off now that Derby have the job done, and the Rams captain is given a standing ovation as he claps all sides of Pride Park.

    Jack Marriott takes his place.

This was probably the night Wayne Rooney really arrived at Derby County.

  12. goal

GOAL: Derby 4-0 Stokepublished at 21:21 GMT 31 January 2020

    Jayden Bogle (74 mins)

This has turned into a rout!

Derby boss Phillip Cocu will be so happy on the touchline, because his substitution seconds earlier has led to this goal.

A quick break from the hosts sends Jayden Bogle down the right, who has just been moved forward into a more advanced role, and he hammers the ball into the top corner across Jack Butland, to give the Stoke keeper no chance whatsover.

    That is a BEAUTIFUL strike - from a full-back!

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:20 GMT 31 January 2020

    Cardiff 1-1 Reading

    Cardiff almost score again!

Rafael Cabral with a superb save to deny Danny Ward's shot on the spin. Reading are rocking.

This had been coming - Cardiff are level!

Callum Paterson hammers the ball in from just a couple of yards out after a bit of mayhem following a long-throw.

They'll fancy the win now too.

    Wayne Rooney (67 mins)

Game over - that is what Derby signed Wayne Rooney for!

This free-kick is just to the right of centre and right on the 18-yard line. For most players, you'd say that's too close to get it up and over the wall, and then back down again.

Not for Rooney though - he curls it into the top corner.

Two goals in two games now for the former England captain, who has run this game from central midfield.

    Derby 2-0 Stoke

A change apiece - Stoke take off Josh Tymon and bring on Thibaud Verlinden, Derby take off Chris Martin and bring on Graeme Shinnie.

The visitors going more aggressive and the visitors more defensive.

But, Derby have a free-kick 20 yards out now and guess who's going to take it...

  17. Postpublished at 21:11 GMT 31 January 2020

    Derby 2-0 Stoke

Stoke are having a real spell now, and Derby are falling deeper and deeper.

They haven't created anything, but it's enough to get the Derby fans very frustrated. The moans and groans of nerves are audible from the stands.

    Cardiff 0-1 Reading

Cardiff are continuing to push, but Reading look organised and are holding firm.

Another cross is sent in by the hosts and Jazz Richards tries to turn it home but can't quite get on the end of it.

Right, in the first half I said it was poor and that had the desired effect.

    It's poor again.

  20. Postpublished at 21:04 GMT 31 January 2020

    Derby 2-0 Stoke

We have our first effort since the break!

Derby are pretty well organised and seem happy enough to let Joe Allen have a shot with his weaker foot from 25 yards. They were right to, as he never really got hold of it, and it dribbles into Ben Hamer's midriff.
