    A hard defeat for Boston to take having given it a great go in the second half.

    Still a good night for the final cup tie at York Street.

    A new ground to come for Boston and promotion to fight for in National League North.

    But it's Rochdale who go through and that's still a great third-round tie to look out for against Newcastle in January.

    Boston United manager Craig Elliott told BT Sport:

    "It was a good game and I'm extremely proud of the players.

    "A bounce of a ball didn't go for us, we had a lot of balls around the box and we just needed something to go for us.

    "I thought we did enough to take it to extra time."

    What a time for Boston to suffer their first home defeat of the season.

    Such a shame for the National League North side but they contributed to a proper cup tie.

    Ultimately, their two major errors - the first a stinker at any level - have cost them.

    Rochdale's Aaron Wilbraham told BT Sport:

    "It was two tough tests and the boys defended resolutely and saw the game out in the end.

    "We didn't play very well in the first game and we knew tonight was going to be tougher.

    "Everyone wants to draw a Premier League team and we’ll look forward to playing Newcastle now."

    They see out injury time very comfortably and survive a really tricky night in Lincolnshire.
