    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "That's what it is [VAR]. We have to accept it. I would like to win, we had an incredible performance. The amount of shots...its an emotion for me.

"We respect the football we want to play. I don't have regrets. We have to eat poison and think about the next game.

"What can I say? I would like to win for the chances we create but we didn't.

"I am not going to judge the team performance against the goals we conceded. We had 30 shots."

I'm a Spurs fan and anti-VAR. I think it will ultimately ruin the football watching experience. But people have criticised referees so much so that's why we've got it. Now we've got it you can't pick and choose and say its only a slight handball.

    Neil

I don't think it's VAR that's the problem. The decisions were correct when you look at the laws of the game. Does the handball law need changing again? Absolutely. Did the referee or VAR do anything wrong? No.

  7. Postpublished at 20:06 BST 17 August 2019

    FT: Man City 2-2 Tottenham

    Manchester City

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne on BBC Match of the Day: "It feels weird to have the last-minute goal disallowed but we just have to accept it.

"I'm old school - I love the flow of the game and the enthusiasm. But if we want to get the game better I'm fine with it, but I learned after the game if the ball touched the Tottenham hand then the goal is disallowed which is absurd.

"I have no issue with the rule - the rule is the rule - but it should be looked at because that situation is crazy.

"Everybody is proud with the way we performed - Spurs got two goals but they only had two chances so they were really clinical. We have to be proud because to play at this level against a team like Tottenham is really good for the rest of the season.

"It's always more difficult in a big game but we almost totally dominated them. They had some of the ball but it was always their defenders that had the ball which wasn't an issue for us."

  8. 'We need to adjust to VAR'published at 20:04 BST 17 August 2019

    FT: Man City 2-2 Tottenham

    Manchester City

Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne, speaking to Sky Sports about the VAR disallowed goal: "It is what it is. It's a new rule in football. It's a little bit weird. I don't really agree with the law but it's something we need to adjust to.

"We totally dominated the game and should have scored more goals. The way we played was really well. The team will do great things this season."

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Hugo Lloris: "It's very positive for us to get a point here and it's a good signal to the other challengers. Step by step we are improving and we all know the direction we want to take as a club.

"It's only August so we need to give time for the pre-season process to get us in perfect position. If we played that game later in the year there would be more intensity but for now we did very well."

  10. 'VAR is part of football now'published at 20:01 BST 17 August 2019

    FT: Man City 2-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs captain Hugo Lloris speaking to BBC Match of the Day, about VAR: "We thought we had lost the game but then VAR happened to give us the draw and keep the fans happy.

"The feeling is completely different to the Champions League quarter-final because you have no more chances but the league is so long so you have more chances.

"For me, the game was lost [when Jesus scored]. It was completely different in the Champions League last year. To be fair it was a great finish from Gabriel Jesus but VAR is part of football now.

"It depends on the interpretation of people. Everyone is free to talk about it but the referee has to make a decision and this time it's unlucky for City and a help for Tottenham."

  11. 'We have to accept VAR'published at 19:59 BST 17 August 2019

    FT: Man City 2-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I'm very pleased with a point and but also knowing we need to improve. We are in a process where we need to improve in all areas and the team is going to improve step by step but we need time.

"It was an unbelievable goal [by Lucas Moura]. Always when you play a team like Manchester City, you have to play your best.

"We need to accept that [VAR]. I was a little bit critical of VAR but now we have to accept the rules. Now it benefits us. No doubt it won't benefit us at other times. It's a rule we need to accept."

Rhys: Punishing an unavoidable accident is a ridiculous new law. If it's a deliberate attempt to manipulate play with your hand fine. If it brushes an arm accidentally at the speed this game is played then the FA have lost the plot entirely.

Fed up of saying it - VAR is the death of football. From a Liverpool fan.

  13. 'They have to fix it'published at 19:55 BST 17 August 2019

    FT: Man City 2-2 Tottenham

    Manchester City

More from Pep Guardiola on Sky Sports, talking about VAR: "I thought we left that situation in Tottenham in the Champions League last season. But it is the same. The referee and VAR disallow it. It's the second time [it's happened] - it's tough. It's honestly tough but it's the way it is.

"It happened last week with Wolves and we saw for Chelsea on Wednesday - the keeper wasn't on his line - Adrian in the penalty shoot-out. They have to fix it. The whistle inside matches now isn't quite clear. But they believe it's hands with Llorente in the Champions League and sometimes they don't.

"It was incredible it wasn't a penalty in the first half [for the foul on Rodri in the box] but VAR said it wasn't and then at the end they did. I'm pretty sure people were happy today we just need to work harder at scoring our chances."

  14. 'I am so proud'published at 19:54 BST 17 August 2019

    FT: Man City 2-2 Tottenham

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "The way we played was incredible - I am so proud. The amount of shots we had was great and we only let them have two.

"People say we can improve but the result is all that counts in the end. We would like to win because the guys deserved it but sometimes football is like this.

"They crossed the halfway line maybe four or five times in 90 minutes so we defended well. [Goals from] corners happen when you have good takers and good headers but of course we will work on [defending them]."

Craig Smith: I agree with VAR how it makes things right, but at what point will it impact the game when you don’t know when to celebrate. Toys with emotions!

Josh Earl: It might be a bit harsh on City but you can't assist a goal with your hand, regardless of whether it's accidental.

AbhieSpeaks: Either people stop complaining about bad referring or get used to absolutely right VAR decisions like today. Humans will make errors & VAR will be painfully right.
