Derby goalscorer Tom Lawrence tells Sky Sports:

"It's massive to get off to a good start. It's what you prepare for all through pre-season.

"The gaffer has given me more of a free role. It's nice to get the two goals and the three points.

"It's always tough to take, losing in a play-off final, but we've worked hard in pre-season with a new manager. We've built into the philosophy that he wants."

Tom Lawrence was the difference for Derby with two first-half goals. Karlan Grant's reply from the spot was not enough for Huddersfield.

New Huddersfield owner Phil Hodgkinson just experienced one of those frustrating moments you get when you invest your cash into a football club.

He was on his feet ready to acclaim Elias Kachunga's equaliser, only to slump back in his seat as the ball went sailing over the Derby bar.

As my mum used to say, it's only money.

Huddersfield come forward again but it's a little bit slow and predictable. Derby holding firm for now.

    Should be 2-2!

What a miss by Elias Kachunga.

The ball drops to him at the back post, he has time to take a touch and pick his spot, but he blasts it into the stand.

Matt Clarke has done very well on his debut for Derby. The centre-back on loan from Brighton heads away another corner, having looked very assured in possession.

In the meantime, the Rams make a change - Florian Jozefzoon is replaced by Mason Bennett.

It's gone a bit scrappy. There's not much to talk about, both sides are huffing and puffing.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 67 mins

    Huddersfield 1-2 Derby

Huddersfield's second change sees Elias Kachunga come on for Adama Diakhaby. A fairly straight swap on the right wing, I would think.

Tom Lawrence has scored twice in a match for the first time since doing so for Ipswich against Reading in February 2017.

He's picked a good night to bag another double - Derby are 25 minutes away from an opening-game win, although Huddersfield are threatening.

    Matthew Glennon
Former Huddersfield goalkeeper on BBC Radio Leeds

It'll be interesting to see what system Town go into now.

I'd like to see Alex Pritchard pressed further forward to put more pressure on that Derby backline.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 62 mins

    Huddersfield 1-2 Derby

Huddersfield sub Isaac Mbenza is going to replace Juninho Bacuna, who has picked up a knock.

Mbenza scored when the Terriers drew with Manchester United towards the end of last season.
