Just the one AFCON match today, but it's all go from tomorrow with often three, if not four, matches to be played per day during a breathless group stage schedule.

Tomorrow, DR Congo and Uganda (15:30 BST) complete matchday one in Group A, while Group B will see Nigeria take on Burundi (18:00 BST) and Guinea face debutants Madagascar (21:00 BST).

Group C comes in to focus on Sunday, as Senegal begin their campaign against Tanzania (18:00 BST) without the suspended Sadio Mane, and Man City's Riyad Mahrez will likely be involved as Algeria come up against Kenya (21:00 BST).

Those Group C games are preceded by Morocco v Namibia in Group D's first match.

Not a bad start at all to the 2019 tournament, with both sides having a good go in Cairo.

Egypt will undoubtedly need to improve on that opening performance if they are to go on and win an eighth Africa Cup of Nations title, but it's very much a case of job done for Javier Aguirre's hosts.

Zimbabwe offered plenty of energy to proceedings and will head in to their remaining two group matches against DR Congo and Uganda full of confidence after that.

And that's it - Egypt hang on to begin their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with victory over Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe are fighting until the final whistle here as they pen Egypt in to their own half.

But as has been the story during this game, they can't find the quality on the final cross in to the area and Egypt escape unharmed...

Four minutes are to be added on at the end of this one.

It remains delicately poised. Can the hosts see out a winning start to the tournament?

Substitute goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze is called in to action, and it's Mohamed Salah again with the opportunity on the break for Egypt.

Chipezeze does really well to close the angle on the Liverpool forward, who can't quite guide the ball beyond the goalkeeper's outstretched right leg.

Egypt have taken their foot off the gas and have left the door open for Zimbabwe - but can they create something clear-cut? They've struggled to so far.

Excellent play form Zimbabwe's Khama Billiat, who drives towards the penalty area before trying to play Ovidy Karuru through on goal.

It's cut-out on this occasion, but Zimbabwe can sense more opportunities are heading their way as the match heads towards its conclusion.

And Egypt make their final change of the game, as goalscorer Mahmoud Hassan is withdrawn with 10 minutes remaining for Nabil Emad.

Good hit!

Ovidy Karuru strikes one from distance, it's hit with power and it's on target but it's just too close to the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, at the other end, Zimbabwe goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda cannot continue following his earlier knock and on comes Elvis Chipezeze.

The game has lost its edge in the last few minutes after a good 20 minutes or so of end-to-end counter attacks.

Zimbabwe are seeing more of the ball in midfield with Marshall Munetsi and Knowledge Muson in particular getting more involved.

Still the final ball evades them, but Zimbabwe seem to have more energy in their play than their opponents at present.

Egypt make their second change as Amr Warda replaces Abdallah El-Said - who could, and perhaps should, have scored from a couple of good opportunities early in the first half.

Mo Salah races on to a through ball inside the Zimbabwe penalty area, but he can't quite get enough behind the shot and Edmore Sibanda is able to prevent the ball squeezing inside his near-post.

The crowd are beginning to quieten a little with Egypt unable to find that second goal.

Zimbabwe right-back Tendai Darikwa is beginning to attack more and it's allowing his side to double up on the right flank and leave Egypt slightly more stretched.

The final ball needs to be much better if Zimbabwe are going to level this up, though.

It's end-to-end at the moment, as Egypt attack once more.

The counter results in Zimbabwe goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda going down injured though, as he's caught by the outstretching Al Ahly forward Marwan Mohsen.

Mohsen is replaced - you'd suspect it's unrelated - as Egypt make the first change of the match and bring on Walid Soliman.

Zimbabwe try to counter now but Ovidy Karuru's cross from the right is too close to Egypt keeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

Sunday Chidzambwa's side then earn a free-kick in a useful position as they attempt to curb Egypt's momentum, but again the cross is too deep and El Shenawy has an easy catch.

Oooft, goalscorer Mahmoud Hassan tries his luck with a curling effort very similar to the one that found the back of the net before half-time, but he's a bit too far out this time and goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda collects.

Mo Salah then tries a trademark curling shot as he cuts back on the right side of the penalty area, but again it's comfortable enough for Sibanda.
