FT: West Brom 2-2 Aston Villa

Right then, it's good night from us now, after a fascinating night.

To sum up, West Brom snatched a dramatic but controversial draw against local rivals Aston Villa as the ball struck Jay Rodriguez's arm (twice) as he levelled in stoppage time.

Villa had looked set for a third consecutive away win against a promotion rival. They missed several chances to clinch the game earlier on. Instead, they stay eighth.

Norwich v Bolton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

Earlier, Norwich City head coach Daniel Farke compared Pirates of the Caribbean to overcoming a so-called curse of being named manager of the month.

His Canaries side take on lowly Bolton on Saturday, looking to make it eight wins out of nine and stretch their lead at the top of the table.

The Baggies stay third, moving within three points of second-placed Leeds, who have a game in hand.

  4. Moore pleased with comebackpublished at 22:12 GMT 7 December 2018

FT: West Brom 2-2 Aston Villa

Baggies boss Darren Moore tells Sky Sports:

"[On the controversial equaliser] It's all happened so quick and we've ended up getting a point from it.

"But I'm delighted because of the way the boys stuck at it and kept going right to the end.

"In a hotly-contested game, we played some good stuff."

Replays appear to show that Jay Rodriguez's initial reaction to the ball crossing the line was to sink his head to the floor in anguish, almost as it he feared he'd cost his team an equaliser because it struck his arm.

Dave Hemming: If you think J-Rod's goal doesn't count, explain why every game doesn't have 4-5 penalties every time the ball hits a defender on the arm...

Jon Evans: This referee was shocking. Missed a penalty in the first half and missed a blatant handball for the goal.

Chris Adams: Only one way to describe that last minute equalising Jay Rodriguez goal for West Brom - “handy!”

  7. Smith - 'Something was amiss'published at 22:06 GMT 7 December 2018

FT: West Brom 2-2 Aston Villa

A disappointed Vila boss Dean Smith tells Sky Sports:

"We've come toe-to-toe with a team that got relegated last year, on their home patch.

"We probably should have put the game to bed with the chances that we've had.

"But they've scored a goal that should have been disallowed.

"It's something, when you get a reaction from all 11 players. You know something's amiss."

    Should Rodriguez's goal have stood?

West Brom's stoppage-time goalscorer Jay Rodriguez admits to Sky Sports that the ball hit his hand as it went in for the Baggies' dramatic equaliser.

"The referee's not seen it. It has hit my hand. Sometimes you get that luck and sometimes you don't," the striker says.

What did you make of the decision? Should it have been disallowed, or was it a fair decision from the officials? You can have your say via #bbcefl on social media.

  9. Reaction - 'draw feels like a loss'published at 21:59 GMT 7 December 2018

FT: West Brom 2-2 Aston Villa

Admittedly, Villa’s raucous 2,617 visiting fans have so far had more to sing about than the hosts.

But what really stands out among the extensive repertoire from the claret and blue section is that they’ve taken the time and trouble to learn a few new tunes.

All half-inched from other clubs, admittedly. But we haven’t heard then Yippee-ay-eh, Yippee-Ay-Oh once and the old “Spinky and Birchy and Alan McInally” favourite finally seems to have been condemned to history! And that’s got to be a good thing!
