After a quiet first half, it turned into a bit of a thriller but, in the end, even Birmingham's much-vaunted defence could not contain Arsenal's ammunition.

The Gunners go into the international break with their 100 per cent record intact - and, right now, it's difficult to see who can stop them.

We all remember the famous Thierry Henry-led Arsenal team of 2003-04 that went a Premier League season unbeaten.

Arsenal Women are a third of the way to matching that feat 15 years later.

Seven league games, seven wins. Goals scored: 34. Goals conceded: 4. Goal difference: +30. It doesn't get much better than that.

The final whistle goes and Arsenal's 100 per cent start goes on - that's 24 points from 24.

Today has been arguably been their toughest test against a Birmingham side that pushed them all the way.

But these are the type of games that champions find a way to win - and Arsenal have done just that.

Well, that escalated quickly. After very little happening for close to an hour, we've had three goals, including a penalty, plus a goal-line clearance in the space of just over ten minutes.

And Arsenal do not look like settling for a one-goal lead so strap yourself in for what could be a barnstorming last 20 minutes or so here at Borehamwood.

The Gunners come so close to taking the lead for a second time as a Vivianne Miedema header is cleared off the line by Lucy Staniforth.

A big chance too in the context of this game - because Birmingham have barely allowed Arsenal a sniff.

Beth Mead does superbly to battle in from the left and her pull-back tees up fellow England midfielder Jordan Nobbs but she steers tamely straight at Blues keeper Ann-Katrin Berger from around ten yards.

With 13 points from 18, Birmingham will be pretty pleased with their start to the season. But they might wonder how much better it might have been had striker Ellen White not been out since September with a back problem.

Blues have missed the goals that last season's WSL top scorer provides.

Back to the game here and an arm injury to Arsenal's Beth Mead leads to a lengthy stoppage but she's okay to continue.

A rare chance for the Gunners as Lisa Evans' cross picks out Vivianne Miedema but she heads over from around eight yards. The Dutch striker has 14 goals in eight games this season but has had little opportunity to add to that tally today.

Birmingham boss Marc Skinner will be much the happier man with that first half.

If you grew up around the turn of the century, Arsenal Ladies were pretty much the equivalent of the Manchester United men's team - they won everything.

The emergence of new blood - particularly Chelsea and Manchester City - has put an end to their dominance, with their last WSL title coming in 2012, although they have lifted several cups in that time.

Their stunning start to this season has raised Gunners' hopes of once again contending at the top table - but Blues have shown them today that not everyone is going to let them have their own way.

And, apart, from one Jordan Nobbs shot, that forced a fine save from Ann-Katrin Berger, the Gunners have been kept very quiet by Blues' resolute rearguard.
