    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

    It's all over.

Boos ring out around the bet365 stadium.

A terrible start to 2018 for Mark Hughes.

  2. Postpublished at 92 mins

    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

Stoke are really trying here. They have plenty of bodies in the box for the corner but Diouf can't direct his touch into the back of the net.

This is the last chance saloon for the hosts.

  3. CLOSE!published at 87 mins

    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

    SAVED ON THE LINE.

How did that not go in?

Karl Darlow to the rescue yet again from Diouf's header and Berahino can't capitalise on the rebound.

  4. Postpublished at 85 mins

    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

Almost. Mohamed Diame picks off Joe Allen's wild pass and looks to be in but he sends a wild shot over the bar.

    It's tense.

  5. CLOSE!published at 80 mins

    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

Diouf with an acrobatic effort but he's denied by a fantastic reaction from Karl Darlow.

The goalkeeper palms the ball away to keep his side in front.

It just won't go for Mark Hughes' side.

Charlie: Mark Hughes is gone, surely. You can't throw the game at Chelsea to get something from Newcastle and then get nothing from Newcastle either.

Phil: Could be the sack for Mark Hughes in the morning.

  7. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

Stoke have looked out of sorts this afternoon despite making six changes.

Mark Hughes could be under big, big pressure. He's looking very wet, animated and angry on the touchline at the moment.

This would be a damaging defeat.

  8. goal

GOAL - Stoke 0-1 Newcastlepublished at 73 mins

    Ayoze Perez (73 mins)

Newcastle get the goal they deserve.

Ayoze Perez with a neat finish from Jacob Murphy's excellent delivery from the right-hand side.

They've been the better side this afternoon and the ball is FINALLY in the back of the net.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 72 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

An attacking change for Stoke as Saido Berahino comes on for defender Erik Pieters.

A decent outing for Pieters on his return from injury, but he hasn't had much to deal with.

  10. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 71 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Dwight Gayle goes down in the box and Newcastle are furious with Chris Kavanagh.

Gayle makes the run and tries to get on the end of Jacob Murphy's pass. He's onside but he clashes with Kurt Zouma and slides across the turf.

A pause while the men in blue continue to ask the question of the referee but his mind is made up.

The Magpies have not been awarded a penalty in the Premier League so far this season.

  11. Postpublished at 68 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

That's cynical from Kevin Wimmer and right under the nose of referee Chris Kavanagh. He takes out Ayoze Perez and Jonjo Shelvey stands over the free-kick.

CLOSE! That wasn't too far away at all.

Plenty of power but the placement is just off as the ball fails to bend inside the right-hand post.

Best chance of the second half.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 65 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle's gamble up front hasn't paid off and on comes Dwight Gayle for Christian Atsu.

Atsu looked lively for the visitors in the first half but he failed to find the net on three occasions and that's the end of his afternoon.

  13. Postpublished at 61 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Choupo-Moting is in trouble. Yedlin just gets his foot to the ball first and he's cleaned out by the Stoke forward.

Risky, reckless, but just a yellow card. The correct decision and Yedlin is fine.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 58 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Mark Hughes has seen enough. Xherdan Shaqiri is off after just 58 minutes and on comes Mame Biram Diouf.

Shaqiri was given a rest and missed the 5-0 defeat by Chelsea, but he was hard to find on the pitch this afternoon.

    Not a notable performance.

  15. CLOSE!published at 54 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

That's the best we've seen from Stoke.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting with some lovely footwork before he curls in an effort from the edge of the box, but Karl Darlow comes to the rescue once again with a strong punch away.

  16. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Karl Darlow comes to the rescue. The Newcastle keeper with a slightly uneasy punch at full-stretch just as Joe Allen bends his head towards the ball.

Stoke recycle, Charlie Adam with a nice run and a well-weighted cross into the box but Peter Crouch can't connect, even with those long legs of his.

  17. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

A quiet start to the second half. Christian Atsu can't latch onto a long through-ball and Jack Butland sees it roll behind.

    No quick goals here.

  18. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:02 GMT 1 January 2018

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

We're under way in the second half.

No goals so far in any of the other 3pm kick-offs. Will we be the first?

  19. Postpublished at 15:48 GMT 1 January 2018

    HT: Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

A testing end to the half for referee Chris Kavanagh. Stoke appealing all over the place.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was accelerating towards the area and tried to feed Erik Pieters, who went down on the edge of the box claiming he was clattered from behind.

Stoke stopped to wave their hands, meanwhile Joe Allen took a tumble of his own inside the penalty area.

Nothing in either of them, in my opinion.

  20. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:46 GMT 1 January 2018

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

That's the end of the first half here in Stoke.

Newcastle really should be in the lead.
