We were the better team for the first five or 10 minutes but as I've been saying for the last couple of weeks, we just conceded bad goals which were avoidable to put us 2-0 down and on the back foot. I can't fault the boys' work-rate and effort because they got themselves back into the game with our goal. We had to dig in for long spells but we did well. We probably could have nicked another goal on the break and made life a little bit easier for us. We've a system that we play. We're definitely a lot better than we were. With all that was going on in pre-season, it was always going to be difficult for us. We've added a few players. The gaffer had some choice words for us at the break after conceding the equaliser, but we came out and got one early in the second-half. For me as well, it was nice to get the ball rolling again and it was a tap-in, which is my favourite type of goal to score. Unfortunately, Aaron Burns has a dislocated shoulder. I'm disappointed for him, he's a big player for us. It would be nice to see us sign a few players before the window closes but we certainly have enough in the changing room as it is and I'm sure some of the guys that aren't playing as regularly can do a job for us if called upon.

No team dominated in terms of chances created. Right of half-time, if that chance goes in, I think we would have gone in at a deserved one each. In the second half, neither team really threatened. Both defences were on top. The pleasing aspect for us was that we defended well against such a good team but on the other side of the coin, we didn't work their keeper enough.

We left it late, but we did well and created several chances in the first-half and we really should have been going into the break at least three or four up. To be fair to Carrick, they took the game to us in the second-half and scored. However, we brought Neil Lowry on and he changed the game for us. He's had a torrid time with injuries and we played him out on the right instead of centrally, but he created two goals for us. We left it late but, once again, we were very entertaining.

David Cushley produced a wonder pass for the goal. He just drilled it but Declan Caddell took that ball on his chest from 70 yards and he buried it. What a wonderful strike! We had to battle in the second half. Johnny Tuffey's kicks a lovely flat ball in on top of you and we had to make sure we were strong in the air to deal with that. I felt we were comfortable enough and always looked lively on the break. We're come away with the three points so we are very happy.

Some of our play was devastating at times and I thought we were a different level in the first-half. It's how we train and I told the boys to play how we train, so some of the movement and passing was breathtaking at times. Disappointed, I must say, not to score more in the second-half. I thought Cliftonville were fantastic today, but we were also the architect of our own downfall. we were poor defensively, just like against Glenavon and it's basic, schoolboy stuff.
