    Crues maintain seven-point advantage

So Crusaders continue their seemingly inexorable march to a third straight Irish Premiership title with the most composed of 1-0 victories at Mourneview Park. Crusaders have won 20 of their 27 games this season and eight of those wins have been on a 1-0 scoreline. That's what you call economy of effort. Thanks for following the action today. We'll be back on duty with coverage of next weekend's Irish Cup sixth round and the Premiership game between Ards and Carrick Rangers.

We were the better team for the first five or 10 minutes but as I've been saying for the last couple of weeks, we just conceded bad goals which were avoidable to put us 2-0 down and on the back foot. I can't fault the boys' work-rate and effort because they got themselves back into the game with our goal. We were probably the better team going into the second half but unfortunately it just wasn't to be and we conceded another poor goal late on.

We had to dig in for long spells but we did well. We probably could have nicked another goal on the break and made life a little bit easier for us. We've a system that we play. We're definitely a lot better than we were. With all that was going on in pre-season, it was always going to be difficult for us. We've added a few players. Our goalkeeper (Richard Brush) has been worth a lot of points to us and people thought we would struggle when we lost Adam Lecky but Josh McIlwaine has been really good.

    Dungannon Swifts 1-4 Linfield

    Quote Message

The gaffer had some choice words for us at the break after conceding the equaliser, but we came out and got one early in the second-half. For me as well, it was nice to get the ball rolling again and it was a tap-in, which is my favourite type of goal to score. Unfortunately, Aaron Burns has a dislocated shoulder. I'm disappointed for him, he's a big player for us. It would be nice to see us sign a few players before the window closes but we certainly have enough in the changing room as it is and I'm sure some of the guys that aren't playing as regularly can do a job for us if called upon.

No team dominated in terms of chances created. Right of half-time, if that chance goes in, I think we would have gone in at a deserved one each. In the second half, neither team really threatened. Both defences were on top. The pleasing aspect for us was that we defended well against such a good team but on the other side of the coin, we didn't work their keeper enough.

    Ballymena United 3-1 Carrick Rangers

    Quote Message

We left it late, but we did well and created several chances in the first-half and we really should have been going into the break at least three or four up. To be fair to Carrick, they took the game to us in the second-half and scored. However, we brought Neil Lowry on and he changed the game for us. He's had a torrid time with injuries and we played him out on the right instead of centrally, but he created two goals for us. We left it late but, once again, we were very entertaining.

    Glenavon 0-1 Crusaders

    Quote Message

David Cushley produced a wonder pass for the goal. He just drilled it but Declan Caddell took that ball on his chest from 70 yards and he buried it. What a wonderful strike! We had to battle in the second half. Johnny Tuffey's kicks a lovely flat ball in on top of you and we had to make sure we were strong in the air to deal with that. I felt we were comfortable enough and always looked lively on the break. We're come away with the three points so we are very happy.

    Cliftonville 3-0 Portadown

    Quote Message

Some of our play was devastating at times and I thought we were a different level in the first-half. It's how we train and I told the boys to play how we train, so some of the movement and passing was breathtaking at times. Disappointed, I must say, not to score more in the second-half. We did attack, but we were missing that end product, trying to walk the ball in at times. But I'm pleased because we asked for a response after the defeat to Crusaders and they were magnificent.

    Cliftonville 3-0 Portadown

    Quote Message

I thought Cliftonville were fantastic today, but we were also the architect of our own downfall. we were poor defensively, just like against Glenavon and it's basic, schoolboy stuff. We have to take some responsibility. It's hard enough coming to Cliftonville without gifting them such an easy goal to begin with. We got ourselves in decent positions today but just didn't have that final ball, but Cliftonville were certainly worthy winners.

    Coleraine 3-1 Ards

    Quote Message

It was tough, we knew it was always going to be against Ards and it was probably tougher than we expected, but credit to our lads. It's been a great month and I thought it was important to start this game well, which we did. Disappointed to concede from the penalty but I thought we controlled the game after that and I thought are goals were brilliant.

    Glenavon 0-1 Crusaders

Crusaders complete about as comfortable a 1-0 win as you will see at Mourneview Park. Glenavon sent keeper Jonathan Tuffey up the field for a corner right at the death but it came to nothing.

The leaders and champions stay seven points clear of Linfield with Declan Caddell's first-half goal securing a deserved three points.

    Glentoran 0-1 Ballinamallard Utd

Ballinamallard have earned a big win at Glentoran and probably dealt a fatal blow to the home side's hopes of earning a top-six spot.

Glentoran had plenty of chances in the second half but failed to take them and Ryan Mayse's first-half goal has secured the visitors the points.

    Dungannon Swifts 1-4 Linfield

An ultimately convincing win for Linfield as they continue their good run of results against the Swifts in recent seasons.

The Blues maintain their relentless pursuit of Crusaders as they still trail the leaders by seven points, assuming Crusaders see out their 1-0 lead at Glenavon.

  14. INJURY TIMEpublished at 16:53 GMT 28 January 2017

    Glenavon 0-1 Crusaders

We're in the second of six minutes of added time at Mourneview Park. In truth, Glenavon are scarcely threatening to get on terms. It's been a scrappy second half but if anything that has suited the Crues. No fluency from the home side at all.

    Cliftonville 3-0 Portadown

An easy three points for Cliftonville, sweeping past a poor Portadown side with first-half strikes from Jude Winchester, Jay Donnelly and Chris Curran enough for Gerard Lyttle's Reds.

Johnny McMurray is eventually rewarded for his considerable efforts by bundling the ball home for what must be the clincher for Ballymena at the Showgrounds.

  19. OFF THE BAR!published at 16:47 GMT 28 January 2017

    Cliftonville 3-0 Portadown

The Reds have spurned several opportunities to make this a real demolition, but it remains just the three. David McDaid sees his effort tipped onto the bar by McGaughey who, despite being culpable for Curran's goal, has had an excellent game between the sticks and prevented it from being five or six.
