Atletico were far from their best today - neither side could have felt they definitely deserved to go through - or out. But the Spanish champions join Monaco in the last eight.

Stefan Kiessling, who missed the key penalty, is in tears. He is being consoled by Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak. I'm sure that won't be of too much comfort.

All square again! No-nonsense strike into the bottom left corner.

  12. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 22:28 GMT 17 March 2015

And now Koke misses. Powerful low drive but the keeper dives the right way and fists it away.

  13. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 22:27 GMT 17 March 2015

The calmest run up you've ever seen... and the least calm strike you've ever seen. Blazed high and wide. Shocker.

  14. GOALpublished at 22:26 GMT 17 March 2015

That's three in a row into the top-right corner. Calm and confident, top class.

  15. GOALpublished at 22:26 GMT 17 March 2015

Was that a replay? A complete copy of the previous kick and it's all square.

  16. GOALpublished at 22:25 GMT 17 March 2015

That's the way to do it. Antoine Griezmann fires it high into the top right corner.

  17. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 22:24 GMT 17 March 2015

    And again!

Straight down the middle, keeper doesn't move. Still all square.

  18. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 22:23 GMT 17 March 2015

Oh no! Leans back and blazes it over the bar. Advantage Leverkusen.

Atletico Madrid to take the first kick.

Bayer Leverkusen players in a huddle. Every player the camera shows - for both sides - looks a bit sick. Desperately tense times at Vicente Calderon.
