Before we go, a look at the Group B table. Tunisia are very much in the box seat - the other three sides will probably (though not necessarily) have to win their final group match to advance.

Cape Verde v DR Congo match statsImage source, BBC Sport

The possession was evenly shared but the stats show that Cape Verde created the more chances and will be the more disappointed of the two sides with a draw.

So, Cape Verde and DR Congo are still in with a shout of qualifying, but both sides will have to improve rather markedly on that drab performance.

Cape Verde dominated the first half but and might have nicked the points at the end of a more even second period but for some excellent goalkeeping from Robert Kidiaba. They will rue a lack of cutting edge.

DR Congo flickered intermittently, most notably through Cedrick Mabwati, but overall they were disappointing and it was an especially bad night for their Premier League stars. Captain Youssouf Mulumbu was stretchered off in the first half, and Yannick Bolasie was hooked midway through the second after a lacklustre performance.

All over in Ebebiyin. Cape Verde had the better chances, but two excellent late saves by DR Congo keeper Robert Kidiaba preserve a share of the points for the Leopards.

Cape Verde's Babanco is down receiving treatment on his ankle after a nasty collision. In fact, the stretcher is out - he becomes the second captain to be stretchered off in this match.

Jeremiah Kariuki: Cape Verde is the better team but football can be an unfair game, they may regret the missed opportunities they have had!

Three added minutes. Has our best chance of a late winner come and gone?

  9. CLOSE!published at 20:47 GMT 22 January 2015

Another huge chance for Cape Verde. DR Congo's defenders go Awol as Cape Verde counter at pace, Babanco plays in Heldon down the right, he cuts inside his man and pulls the trigger but Robert Kidiaba smothers brilliantly.

Dipo Lawuyi: This could possibly be the most uninspiring African Nations Cup ever. Maybe because Nigeria aren't there.

BBC Sport's Nick Cavell in Ebebiyin

"A few of the neutral supporters have had enough and are heading for the exits but there are still some trying to keep the dancing going - lined up behind one another dancing among the seats conga-style."

  12. CLOSE!published at 20:42 GMT 22 January 2015

From which Cape Verde so nearly score! The ball is whipped in by Heldon, Fernando Varela meets it at the near post with a firm header, Robert Kidiaba cam only palm it out towards Gege but the keeper recovers brilliantly to deny the centre-back just as he seems certain to tuck away the rebound. Terrific goalkeeping from the pony-tailed 38-year-old.

Babanco gets Heldon away down the right with a great ball. He wins a corner for Cape Verde...

Cape Verde were much the better side in the opening half but they've lost their spark in the second period and they just don't seem willing to commit forward in numbers. Odair Fortes brings the ball down the right but he has no support and the move dies.

BBC Sport's Nick Cavell in Ebebiyin

"The DR Congo fans and band to my right haven't stopped since the first whistle - shame that it is not inspiring the players at the moment. Both teams are really lacking any sort of quality in the final part of the pitch and there have been lots of poor final balls."

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:37 GMT 22 January 2015

This game could do with a bit of quality - perhaps Platini can provide it? The familiarly named Cape Verde midfielder enters the fray in place of Tavares.

  17. Postpublished at 20:36 GMT 22 January 2015

Remember, a draw here will leave both these teams on two points. They'll be far from out of contention, but will probably need to win their final match. Can either of them snatch victory in the closing stages here?

  18. Postpublished at 20:33 GMT 22 January 2015

Cedrick Mabwati has been a real live wire for DR Congo in the second half - the game's best player. He twists and turns his way towards the byline on the left and stands up a good cross into the six-yard box, which Gege oh-so-casually chests back to his keeper. Veins of ice.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:29 GMT 22 January 2015

This game is drifting aimlessly towards a 0-0. Odair Fortes is introduced for Cape Verde in place of Ryan Mendes - can he spark it into life?

  20. Postpublished at 20:25 GMT 22 January 2015

Heldon shows quick feet down the left and swings in a cross towards Ryan Mendes. Mendes does really well to turn and retrieve the slightly wayward ball, but he then tries a shot from an impossibly tight angle and blasts it harmlessly over.
