So, to summarise, Pakistan ended the day 57-4 - unable to deal with some aggressive bowling from Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes.

They will resume on day three 532 runs behind England's mammoth first-innings score.

They'll be doing a rain-dance as we speak. England? They'll be incredibly relaxed, almost euphoric.

There's a long way to go yet... but England are well on course for victory.

Yasir was like a horse that's knackered - he was overbowled and had nothing left in the tank.

Woakes is going forward very quickly, with his bowling and batting. Bairstow was belligerent. He was trying to score quickly and he made a tremendous half-century. He hits the ball so hard.

Scoreboard pressure does funny things to people. Did Pakistan have the mental toughness to survive 24 overs? No. They are in trouble. They're not going to save the match. It will have to rain a lot if England are not to win.

While the pitch looked nice and placid when England batted, it showed a mischievous streak when Pakistan took their turn.

James Anderson and Stuart Broad failed to impose themselves with the new ball, but Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes - England's new double act - ensured Pakistan ended the second day four wickets down.

England's Joe Root, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was nice to go on and make a big one. Finally, to do it, is a really nice feeling. Scores like this are why we play the game - to make big contributions. The lower scores give you the drive to get a big one when you get in.

"Recently I have thrown it away on a few occasions and I made up for it today. Obviously I didn't score as quickly as I usually do, but maybe that's what I need to do if I'm going to get such big scores."

The whole day was about England, no doubt about that. Joe Root took centre stage. He's one of the best four or five players in the world - he'd get in any world XI. He was composed, orthodox, textbook - everything about his innings was nice. It was a very fine innings.
