Leicestershire are to talk to elite performance director Andrew McDonald about his future with the club, chief executive Wasim Khan has confirmed.

The 35-year-old has been linked, external with a move back to Australia to coach his home state of Victoria.

"We're not surprised he's getting approached left, right and centre in different states of New Zealand and Australia," Khan said.

"We're going to have a conversation to see where things are at with him."

McDonald, who has a contract with Leicestershire which runs until the end of the 2017 season, could make a decision on his future by Friday.

Some quotes from United States international defender DeAndre Yedlin who has moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Newcastle for an undisclosed fee after Daryl Janmaat left the north east to join Watford earlier today.

Yedlin, 23, has signed on a five-year-contract at St. James' Park and becomes the ninth player to join the Championship side this season.

"Newcastle is such a big and historic club, and I'm excited to have the honour of playing for them. Hopefully I can do great things here," said Yedlin.

"I'm excited to learn under Rafa Benitez as well. He has an amazing résumé and I know he will help improve me a lot. I can't wait to get started."

Former Leeds Rhinos and England captain Kevin Sinfield has been appointed rugby director at the Rugby Football League.

Sinfield played more than 500 games for Leeds between 1997 and 2015, and spent a year with rugby union side Yorkshire Carnegie before retiring in May.

The 35-year-old's new role includes helping create the England team's four-year plan for the 2021 World Cup.

He will also work with the RFL's commercial team to help players find new careers after their retirement.

Any move to form a breakaway super league involving Europe's top sides would lead to "war" between the clubs and the governing body, says a leading Uefa presidential candidate.

Alexander Ceferin, who heads the Slovenian FA and holds more than 20 pledges of support for his presidential candidacy, insists any closed super league is "out of the question".

Talks involving leading European clubs and Uefa have been ongoing for a number of months, with a Champions League format revamp under discussion.

A decision on potential changes could be announced as early as Friday.

The outfields for the Tests between West Indies and India, and South Africa and New Zealand, have been rated "poor" by the International Cricket Council.

Only 22 overs were bowled in the fourth Test in Trinidad as the surface was unplayable following pre-match rain.

The last three days of the first Test in Durban were wiped out after heavy rain saturated a newly laid outfield.

The West Indies Cricket Board and Cricket South Africa may be warned or fined up to $15,000.

Both boards have 14 days to respond to the match referees' reports.

Andy Murray has been seeded second in the men's singles for the US Open, with fellow Briton Johanna Konta a career-high 13th in the women's singles.

World number two Murray, 29, has reached the final of all three Grand Slams this year, winning Wimbledon for a second time last month. Konta, 25, is ranked 14th in the world.

Defending US Open champion Novak Djokovic, who has had a wrist injury, is the top seed at Flushing Meadows.

A teenager who attacked a goalkeeper during a Swedish first division match acted because he was about to lose a bet on the game.

In the 90th minute of the Jonkoping v Ostersund match on 15 August, the 17-year-old, whose face was masked, ran on to the pitch and attacked away goalkeeper Aly Keita.

Keita was clutching his head as he returned to the changing rooms where he was tended to by medics, with the referee stopping the game which had been heading towards a 1-1 draw.

The teenager, whose name has not been disclosed, told investigators "he had bet on a certain score in the match and when the score was not what he had hoped for he acted out of disappointment," prosecutor Pernilla Torsleff wrote in a statement.

Four-time Olympic champion Laura Trott is frustrated rival riders have questioned Britain's Rio track success.

British riders won six gold medals, four silvers and one bronze in Brazil, having taken 12 medals at London 2012.

World championships in between have yielded fewer medals and several rivals - including Australia's Anna Meares - have questioned the team's improvement.

"It is a little bit frustrating because there's a lot of hard work gone into that performance," Trott, 24, said.

All-rounder James Faulkner has become the sixth Australian to take a one-day international hat-trick, in the second match against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

The left-arm seamer, 26, dismissed Kusal Perera with the final ball of the 46th over before removing Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera in the 48th.

Sri Lanka, 1-0 down in the five-match series, were bowled out for 288.

Bruce Reid, Anthony Stuart, Brett Lee, Clint McKay and Dan Christian are the other Australians with ODI hat-tricks. Faulkner finished with figures of 3-45 from nine overs.

Greg Clarke has been appointed as chairman of the Football Association, replacing Greg Dyke, who did not seek re-election when his three-year term ended in June.

David Gill, who was acting chairman, reverts to the vice-chairman role. 

Clarke said: "I’m delighted to be confirmed at the next chairman of The FA and I’m relishing the challenge.

"The FA has the ability to have the most positive effect on football in this country – from the grassroots game all the way through to the men’s and women’s senior England teams. I’m looking forward to continuing that good work and playing my part in representing an FA that we can all be proud of."
