Belfast Giants took another step towards the Elite League title after beating Cardiff Devils 2-1 at the Vindico Arena.

The Giants took the lead in the 26th minute through Mike Lee to silence the 3000 plus home support in the Welsh capital.

It was a nightmare two minutes for the hosts as their Northern Irish visitors doubled the lead in the 28th minute when Jordan Kawaguchi scored.

The Devils thought they were on for a comeback when Kohen Olischefski made it 2-1 after scoring in the 37th minute.

But Belfast held firm to extend their lead over Cardiff to six points at the top of the Elite League.

The Devils will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they face Nottingham on Sunday (16:00 GMT) to take on a Panthers side who in January became the first British club to lift the Continental Cup for the second time.
