Ireland men's hockey team beat Germany 2-1 in their second test match in Mannheim on Wednesday.

David Ames scored the winning goal 10 minutes from the end against a German side ranked number two in the world.

The victory was a small consolation for the Irish players who recently missed out on a place at this year's Olympic games.

Ian Sloan's penalty corner put Ireland ahead in the sixth minute. Germany equalized before Ames' late winner.
