Tour Championship: Ariya Jutanugarn wins with birdie after Lexi Thompson slip

Thailand's former world number one Ariya Jutanugarn birdied the final two holes to win the Tour Championship by a shot at Tiburon Golf Club in Florida.

The 21-year-old world number nine, one of four joint overnight leaders, holed successive putts from in excess of 20 feet for a 67 and a 15-under total.

Two groups earlier, American Lexi Thompson missed a par putt at the last from 18 inches to drop to 14 under.

Britain's defending champion Charley Hull finished in a share of 11th.

Hull, the 21-year-old from Kettering, who won last year for her maiden LPGA title, was five shots adrift after a two-under final-round of 70.

Thompson, who was denied victory in the first major of the season after a TV viewer spotted that she had incorrectly replaced a marked ball, which led to a two-stroke penalty, had seemed set for her third win of the year.

The short putt gave her the only dropped shot of her round of 67 but she still secured the $1m Race to the Globe season bonus prize after finishing highest of the five players who could have won the prize this week.

Jutanugarn, the former Women's British Open champion, made one of only four birdies at the 18th hole in the final round to claim her seventh career LPGA title and her second of the year after the Manulife Classic in June, having won five in 2016.

The LPGA Player of the Year award was shared for the first time, by South Koreans Park Sung-hyun - who was also the LPGA Rookie of the Year - and Ryu So-yeon.

US Women's Open champion Park, the 24-year-old world number two, matched Nancy Lopez as the only player to win top player and rookie awards in the same year.
