Newport County have failed to win their seven Football League games against Barnet
Christian Fuchs will have to wait for his first win as Newport manager after his side played out a goalless draw against Barnet.
The first half was an even affair with both teams probing to get an opener at Rodney Parade.
The hosts had the first big chance of the match when Leicester City loanee Sammy Braybrooke delivered a wonderful ball in to Michael Spellman, who failed to convert his chance after rounding Barnet goalkeeper Cieran Slicker.
Cameron Antwi also went close for County in the 18th minute when his attempt was cleared off the line by Slicker.
The Bees started to get a foothold in the game late on in the first half, applying sustained pressure to Newport's defence.
Barnet have not lost to a Welsh side in the Football League since a 3-1 defeat to Wrexham in 2005 and the record did not look under threat in the second half.
The visitors continued their momentum from the end of the first half and began to dominate possession and key chances in the second half.
Nnamdi Ofoborh came close for Barnet in the 57th minute as his shot from inside the area was parried away by Jordan Wright.
As the game progressed it seemed a Bees winner was inevitable and those County fans hoping for some festive fortune were inches away from last-minute heartbreak.
In the 96th minute Barnet midfielder Dennis Adeniran played a ball into the Newport box which led to a goalline scramble, only for a crucial Ben Lloyd block to save the County fans from Boxing Day heartbreak.
The draw means Newport are still bottom of League Two with 14 points.
County manager Fuchs could see it as a missed opportunity to apply serious pressure on relegation rivals, as Harrogate Town, Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury Town all lost.
'We stayed resilient'
Newport County head coach Christian Fuchs told BBC Radio Wales:
"We played the better football, I think we were the only team out there that looked a threat.
"We could have gone up one or two nil. I also liked to see that when we got under pressure in the second half we stayed resilient, I never had the feeling that we would concede a goal.
"Overall I think a very good performance from the team. The boys kept going they kept fighting, the spirit was amazing.
"Every point is amazing. Everybody played for each other, I think Barnet are happy to walk away with a point. Three points would have been great but it is a great performance in my eyes."
