  1. 'No need to call Dowman up now and increase the pressure'published at 11:46 GMT

    England

England manager Thomas Tuchel on his decision not to call up Arsenal teenager Max Dowman: "He is an outstanding talent. Everyone I speak to is full of compliments about him, but the reality is he competes for minutes at Arsenal and is not a regular starter.

"He is in the best environment possible in a stable and competitive club. He learns from the very best.

"He is in a good spot to fight for minutes at Arsenal. There is always a chance. The key with young players is to keep their momentum going as they have a level of fearlessness.

"There is no need to call him up now and increase the pressure."

How is Dom Solanke in but Watkins out? Watkins may not be in his best form, but he's never let England down and is clearly the better back-up to Kane.

  3. 'We want to have a clear profile for each player'published at 11:41 GMT

    England

England manager Thomas Tuchel on what he wants to see from his players in the March camp: "We want to have a clear profile for each player - what we expect from them, which position they will compete in within our structure, and the demands of that role. At the same time, I hope they feel the freedom and the spirit of the group quickly. It was a pleasure in September, October, and November to be part of that, so we want to reconnect with that spirit.

"I think it's very important that experienced players - like Jordan Henderson, and others who have contributed a lot - make it immediately clear to everyone what it means to act on and off the pitch, showing respect and being a good team-mate. This is the culture we want to create.

"Hopefully, the players will quickly feel the freedom to show their potential. We will be very clear with them during the four training sessions - it will be demanding, but I’m looking forward to it."

"He's decisive and also a good penalty taker. I want to see what these players are capable of, to understand how they can contribute, particularly with set pieces, using their strength and height. This helps me learn about them.

"As I said, the competition is on - they'll now compete for minutes against Uruguay. They have a real chance to play, and of course, they're excited about the call-up. They understand the situation and know exactly what's expected, which gives them a real opportunity to earn minutes for England."

Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered a frustrating beginning to his time at Real Madrid due to a series of injuries and struggles with his form.

His lack of game-time would have made it difficult for Thomas Tuchel to form a true picture of the former Liverpool right-back's readiness for England, especially when World Cup qualification was on the line in previous squad selections.

Alexander-Arnold had not played for almost two months before the last England squad was announced in November, but has featured much more consistently for Real Madrid since the turn of the year.

He has played in nine of Real's last 10 games, starting five of their last six matches in all competitions.
