It was the second red of Jobe Bellingham's career, having previously been sent off for Sunderland
Jobe Bellingham was sent off for the first time in Borussia Dortmund colours as they were held by Freiburg in the Bundesliga.
The 20-year-old England Under-21 midfielder was shown a straight red card for a professional foul on Philipp Treu in the 53rd minute.
Third-placed Dortmund had been leading 1-0 at that stage from Ramy Bensebaini's close-range effort.
But Freiburg, who are ninth, levelled through Lucas Hoeler's fine volley.
"We're definitely disappointed," Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel told DAZN.
"If the red card doesn't happen, the result would look different. We had the game under control and were very dominant."
Bellingham has yet to score in 27 games for Dortmund since a summer move from Sunderland.
