That big win for Everton over Chelsea has huge ramifications at both ends of the WSL table.

At the bottom, the Toffees move six points clear of the relegation zone, while at the top the Blues are now six points adrift of leaders Man City in the title race.

Everton's Player of the Match, Courtney Brosnan, speaking on BBC iPlayer: "I'm just so proud of the team. Obviously, we knew it was going to be tough, Chelsea are an unbelievable team. I'm so proud of how everyone showed up. We kept working for 90+ minutes, and we got what we deserved for today."

On if she knew her side would hang on in added time: "It's one of those days where you know no matter what, we could be here for a lot longer, and I don't think they would've scored. I think that's just the heart and the passion and desire we had today. Obviously I wanted the whistle to be blown, but it's good.

"I think we've been really in need of a win, so it's great to get one against Chelsea. We need to kick on from here, and especially in the second half of the season, we know we can do better and get more results and points. It's great to get the win here today."

"I think that's what you have to be like in this league. We know the quality of every team in this league, every game is difficult. You want to show up and get three points from every game. We need to put in that work and try to do everything we can to get three points."

On if she had a favourite save: "I can't think straight right now, but I'm just really proud of the whole team. Probably some of the blocks from the defenders were better than my saves, so I'm just really proud of us and happy to get the win and clean sheet."

Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Keira Walsh speaking to the BBC about the side's WSL unbeaten run ending: "The bigger picture is the league, the unbeaten run was nice but we want to win the league, and dropping points isn't going to help that.

"Man City are a great team, we've got to play them again. We've got to focus, keep our heads down. We've got some tough games, we need to keep working hard."

Everton

Everton manager Brian Sorensen speaking to the BBC: "I'm feeling good, a bit sore in my throat! After the season we have had [so far] we needed some luck on our side. We maybe scored too early in terms of dropping in and defending, but well done to everyone, we deserve it.

"We planned two, three different preses against them [Chelsea], because they normally change the set-up. But today they kept doing the same, of course, a lot of rotations in the team. We were good a communicating and dealing with that.

"Of course they [Chelsea] had a lot of the ball, but only one big chance. I thought we were in control defensively, we wanted to do a bit more offensively but it's hard when they are chasing and going at you with such a strong team.

"We have been talking about tightening up the defence because we are actually scoring goals now. They got the message and did it to perfection.

"This is the first time we played with the same lineup twice. I'm hoping for a little bit of consistency; that's what we've been lacking. We've been conceding easy goals because we've been playing with a new right-back, left-back, centre-back and so on. Hopefully we can go on and build on this."

Back to London for the final words of the day after that huge win for Everton against champions Chelsea.

Manchester United ended a 218-minute Women's Super League goalless streak as they beat West Ham 2-1 earlier.

Entering the game, they hadn't scored since a Lisa Naalsund goal in their November 2 win against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Even better, last season's top scorer Elisabeth Terland was back amongst the goals after a six-game mini drought for club and country, scoring the opener before Dominique Janssen' superb free kick winner.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham captain Bethany England: "They went down to 10, we should be on top and our standards dropped. We knew we needed a quick reaction if we were going to take anything from this game. I truly believed we deserved the win.

On Jess Naz's injury: "Nobody wants to see that. We don't know what it is. It couldn't be the dreaded one that we all hope it is not. She'll be getting assessed, everyone at the club will be behind her and supporting her whatever the result is. Fingers crossed it is not as bad as we hope and we wish her all the best. We got those three points for her as well. You have to switch on in that moment and we just hope Jess is ok."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham midfielder Olivia Holdt: "I'm feeling amazing, it was such a good team performance today and we struggled a little bit but in the end we got the three points and that shows it all."

On her goal: "It was just amazing, those goals that you dream about. I'm so happy that I scored because I would have Beth England on my shoulder if I didn't score. A really nice feeling."

Tottenham Hotspur have won six points from losing positions in the Women's Super League this season, only Arsenal (7) have recovered more.

Manchester City

Manchester City Player of the Match Khadija Shaw, speaking to Sky Sports: "We had a lot of chances in the first half but at half-time we spoke about that it's going to come and be patient and when we get the chance put it in the back of the net, so at the end of the day we win and move on and we're happy.

"I think in the first half, when I was out there, I felt like they practiced crosses because as soon as it went wide, they were like, drop, drop, drop.

"I think in a back five they make things very difficult, especially when the ball comes from the wide areas, but for me I back myself against anyone, so I just have to be ready when the ball's coming in."

Manchester City

City have lost just one of their last 26 Women’s Super League games against teams that finished the previous season in the bottom half or were newly promoted - a 2-1 loss away to Everton in December last year.

Chelsea midfielder Keira Walsh speaking to the BBC: "It was a disappointing one, it wasn't a bad performance, we had a lot of chances but just couldn't put the ball in the net. That was the difference today, we are disappointed.

"It felt like one of those games we could have carried on playing at the ball wouldn't go in. That's something we need to look at when we are back on the training ground, making those chances a bit more clear-cut.

"Whether it's the crosses or the final pass, that's something we ned to fine-tune as a team. We could have done better in the final third, given the number of opportunities we had.

"Credit to Everton, they defended really well today, they put the bodies on the line and made some really good last-minute tackles and blocks."

Chelsea

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor speaking to the BBC: "A really frustrating result for sure, we are really disappointed, but if you analyse the game we knew Everton was coming and we needed to be switched on in the transition, that's how they scored the first goal early in the game.

"We created opportunities to win the game, so it's really disappointing result. That happens sometimes in football, it was not a bad performance, but today we couldn't score and win the game.

"If you look at the stats in terms of possession, chances created and other stats, we had complete control of the game. The only thing was we couldn't score. I don't think their goal changed the game. They were leading and we had to try everything to come back."

Today is going to be one of those days where even if Chelsea played for another four or five hours, they wouldn't score.

While Chelsea need not panic after suffering their first league loss in 585 days, there have been worrying signs around the champions and their performances for a while now.

Today they registered 30 shots but hit the target just six times.

Sent 53 crosses into the box and 18 corners. And had 61 touches inside the Everton box.

More from Everton defender Ruby Mace, speaking on BBC iPlayer: "I think at times you don't even know the ball is coming, you just throw yourself at it, and that's the art of defending. Without this team I don't think any of us could do it if we weren't together.

"Today, with my centre back partner Martina, we say we celebrate the big things, and I think that's what kept everyone going today."

On whether she prefers playing in defence or midfield: "For me, it's about switching on in the defensive part and that's the bit that is hard for me and the bit I have to get my head around. I think by playing there and practicing it helps me, and also in the 6 being a centre back, transferring back to a 6, I think I know what I want from my 6 from playing as a centre back.

"I have to just take this and go on into the next game. Happy with my performance today but we have another game in five days or six days, so I have to stay focused on that one.

"It brings us confidence. We had a great game against Manchester City and came short, and in this game we proved ourselves we can win. It's a threat to teams to show we can perform like this."
