Denmark blew the chance to secure automatic World Cup qualification with a game to spare as they were held to a dramatic draw by Belarus in Copenhagen.

With Scotland trailing in Greece, Mikkel Damsgaard's first-half goal seemed to have the Group C leaders bound for North America next summer.

However, the game in Parken was turned on its head as Valery Gromyko and Nikita Demchenko struck within three minutes to silence the stunned home crowd.

Scottish nerves started jangling as Gustav Isaksen pulled one back for the hosts with 11 minutes to play.

However, Belarus, ranked 103th in the world, held on through seven minutes of injury time to record their first point of the qualification campaign.

It means Denmark head to Glasgow one point above Scotland going into Tuesday's showdown.
