There will be lots of talk of “performance” and “effort” tonight about Tottenham but the fact remains it was Tudor’s terrible decision to play Kinsky in the first leg that cost us this tie. Without his mistakes Spurs go through tonight.

  4. 'We kept on creating and creating'published at 22:55 GMT

FT: Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray (4-1 agg)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot speaking to TNT Sports: "I liked the we played and I liked the way pressed, also the reaction from the fans when Galatasaray were trying to do what I expected them to, being on the floor and trying to kill the momentum. The only complaint is throughout the whole season we've had so many chances where we've not scored, that's the only thing.

"The positive thing is we've had good halves and then spells of ten minutes where we've usually given a moment for the other team to score but today nothing dropped, I don't think they had a chance. We kept on creating and creating.

"It's pleasing to keep a clean sheet, we've not conceded many chances but we concede goals, but tonight we didn't even concede a chance.

On Mo Salah: "I think it says a lot about his mentality that he missed the penalty which was a difficult moment. He then produced a great assist and then his goal is just a trademark of his.

"It means a lot for me and the players to get love from the fans. Anfield showed we can create an atmosphere better than Galatsaray at their place. Our fans reacted when they saw that they were wasting time and that helped a lot.

On facing PSG: "We were completely outplayed away from home last season and then lost on penalties. They haven't dropped their standards but after tonight they won't be happy to play us."

  5. 'The energy was really nice from the first moment'published at 22:53 GMT

FT: Tottenham 3-2 Atletico Madrid (5-7 agg)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Igor Tudor said: "The sensations are mixed. You don't like to not get through, but it was a very good performance. It was a beautiful sensation on the pitch with the fans who were really there together with the squad and the team from the first moment.

"Congratulations to the players. It is positive, commitment, lot of running, lots of good things.

"The energy was really nice from the first moment and the fans recognised the team did everything from the first minute to the last and they were with us - beautiful, thanks.

"The players believed and you could see the performance at this moment is very important. In the last two games we have improved. It is an important game on Sunday [against Nottingham Forest] but it will not decide anything yet, it will be decided over the last three games."

Asked when Tottenham would be back in Europe: "Next year, no, it should be the year after that. Why not? Winning a trophy last season gave the confidence to the players and it is totally different if you have experience in European competition."

On his club's injury problems: "Today we had 11 players and on the bench, just one player - [Kevin] Danso. [Lucas] Bergvall, [Destiny] Udogie and Conor [Gallagher], the doctors said they could only play 20 minutes so you have 11 players and Danso. That makes the value of this performance even better. It was nice to take the victory and important for morale."

Arsenal fan here, well done to Spurs on beating Atletico and a great performance. That's a fine result against really tough opposition. Hopefully this is the springboard that keeps you up and subsequently the North London derby alive next season.

  7. 'We needed that, we were all in tonight'published at 22:50 GMT

FT: Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray (4-1 agg)

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai speaking to TNT Sports: "We needed that. I think today we showed the right direction and what we want to show everybody and each other. It starts with us and I know the fans can be unhappy with us but I think it's a good step for us and it's the first time for me.

"I don't really care how I'm scoring, I just want to help the team succeed. It looks like I have more than a right foot! I just tried to hit the goal and as long as it goes in, that's the important thing. I'm trying to do my best for the team and I'm trying to take more responsibolity because that's how you grow and become a better player.

On comparisons with Steven Gerrard: "When I was a child, I was watching him play, it's a real compliment getting compared to him. I'm happy to play for this club and wear the number eight.

"From the first minute of the game we were on Galatasaray, I took it a bit personally that they were celebrating after the first leg but it gave us a little push. We were all in tonight.

On facing PSG: "Firstly we take this performance into Saturday but I watched them against Chelsea last night, they are a really good team but we showed it today we can do anything.

"Every game should be the same, I know Champions League is a bit different but we need the same energy heading into Saturday."

It's a toss of the coin every week which Liverpool team is going to turn up. The big thing is how are they going to motivate themselves.

Galatasaray were bang on average. It's great they came out and played well. The question now is can they do it away at Brighton? We've seen them have some great recoveries like this this season btu then they don't follow it up in the next game.

Am I crazy or is Liverpool's ceiling higher than the other leading PL clubs? I don't see Arsenal playing that speed and fluidity of football.

  11. 'A lot of positives to take'published at 22:41 GMT

FT: Tottenham 3-2 Atletico Madrid (5-7 agg)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, speaking to TNT Sports: "It was a game of moments and we were close to going over the edge.

"We had a lot of situations in the first half and we could've gone to the break at 2-0. There are a lot of positives to take from tonight and we showed what we need to show every game.

"It's a good build-up into the next games and gives us a lot of confidence. We are very proud of what we did tonight but of course we are disappointed we didn't go through, but the important thing is we have got energy and freshness.

"We fought hard, a lot of duels won, ground duels, aerial duels, second balls. The team is in a better physical place and we kept running until the last second and we had the energy of the fans - we had unbelievable support.

"The next games are crucial and we have to give everything we have but this is a positive start. It's good to see the young players when they have to stand up they do it in this was so I'm very proud of them and we will need them in the last games of the season.

"We have eight games until the end of the season and everyone will be crucial. We need everyone behind us and this kind of support in good times and bad times."

  12. Premier League has an 'arrogance'published at 22:38 GMT

FT: Tottenham 3-2 Atletico Madrid (5-7 agg)

    Andy Reid
Former Spurs midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think there is a bit of arrogance around the Premier League towards the other leagues and teams in the other leagues. I don't know if it's the players, staff or media but there is an arrogance They go into the games thinking they can just run all over them and pass around the park. So, when they do come out, they're shocked. You can see goals really quickly because they think they can press really high and before they know it, they're down. Then they don't know what to do.

Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike, speaking to TNT Sports: "We deserve to be here, so we're really happy. We did a really good job tonight, we could have won 10-0, so we can look forward to the quarter-final.

"We made a few changes at half-time and then when I took my chance we felt more free. Everybody did a great job and ran for each other.

On Mohamed Salah: "He's a legend. Sometimes people say he has a difficult season, but he's been an important player for years. I'm really happy for him scoring his 50th goal."

  16. Tudor needs to take some 'positivity'published at 22:31 GMT

FT: Tottenham 3-2 Atletico Madrid (5-7 agg)

    Andy Reid
Former Spurs midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I thought it was a bit unnecessary from Tudor [to walk straight through the tunnel]. He hasn't had great success yet so you pick up a win tonight, let's get the fans on board and give them a clap so when they turn up here on Sunday they are behind the team. He's lost from a tie and is out of the Champions League but he needs to take any positivity he can get.

If you look at what Atletico Madrid did, they knew they had the advantage so didn't really go after the game which gave Tottenham the opportunity to get something. It will be completely different on Sunday, two teams that are really struggling to find form.

  17. Liverpool need to 'settle' on a team that workspublished at 22:29 GMT

I think it's trying to settle on a team and system that works. It's not only the personnel but it's the system and at the moment, this system is getting the most out of the players and the team as a whole. We know that Arne Slot likes to tinker and make changes and that's the problem at the moment.

When you need results now, who can you look at who can give you a good performance? Liverpool need to find that consistency now, before the end of the season.

  18. 'Positivity' from Tottenhampublished at 22:27 GMT

FT: Tottneham 3-2 Atletico Madrid (5-7 agg)

    Andy Reid
Former Spurs midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Positivity, there was some good football played. Atletico dropped off and were happy enough to sit deep. Tottenham went off and played well. Got into some pockets, looked to play forwards when they could and stretched that Atletico defence and could've had more goals, I think. I still think they are suspect in transition though.

  19. Liverpool performance 'one of the best this season'published at 22:25 GMT

FT: Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray (4-1 agg)

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Anfield

I know Liverpool have stuttered at times this season but the performance that they got tonight was so dominant and impressive.

The fans will be delighted but wondering why they can't be consistent. Why can't they do that all the time? They looked so on it tonight, so sharp and quick. Mo Salah looked back on it tonight. Everything just seemed to click.

That Liverpool performance in the second half was one of the best this season. Galatasaray were pretty passive tonight but Liverpool didn't let them back into the game.
