AFC Wimbledon exacted some revenge after losing 1-0 at home to Cardiff in League One in August

Aron Sasu scored four times as AFC Wimbledon knocked League One leaders Cardiff City out of the EFL Trophy thanks to a 5-1 win in the Welsh capital.

The Dons' first came just before the half-hour mark as winger Sasu outmuscled Cardiff's Dylan Lawlor before slotting the ball inside Matthew Turner's near post.

Sasu doubled his tally 40 seconds into the second half as his low drive from the edge of the box flew into the bottom corner.

The visitors soon struck again as an inswinging corner was headed in by Omar Bugiel at the back post.

Wimbledon academy product Sasu did not have to wait long to complete his hat-trick thanks to another shot from the edge of the box.

Sasu, who had only found the net once in his first 75 professional appearances before this game, scored his fourth with 15 minutes to go, getting on the end of Steve Seddon's cross.

Cardiff hit back late in the game when 19-year-old Luey Giles scored his first ever professional goal with a free-kick.

Despite dominating the possession, the Bluebirds struggled to create chances with Wimbledon's physicality too much for the hosts' young squad at Cardiff City Stadium.
