Celta Vigo won none of their first four major European matches against French sides (D2 L2) but they’ve won both this season, beating Nice and Lille – on both occasions 2-1 – in the group stage.
This is Lyon’s 34th meeting with Spanish clubs in major European competitions but their first ever with Celta Vigo. They’ve already lost to Spanish opposition in the UEFA Europa League this season, a 2-0 defeat to Real Betis in the group stage.
Celta Vigo have only lost two of 10 UEFA Europa League knockout matches (W6 D2) but both were at home and in first legs – against Shakhtar Donetsk in the last 32 and Man Utd in the semi-final in the 2016-17 season.
Lyon have won seven UEFA Europa League matches this season (L1), equalling their most wins in a single major European campaign – they also won seven in 2005-06 and 2016-17.
Iago Aspas has been involved in five goals in his last six UEFA Europa League home starts for Celta Vigo (3 goals, 2 assists), while the Spaniard ranks fifth for chances created in open play in the competition this season (15) and is top for through balls attempted (18).
