Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior on the social media clip that showed him yelling towards Arsenal players to 'stay in their own half' of the pitch during pre-match warm-ups: "It wasn't the players. When you warm up, we have our half and the other team have their half. I've never asked my team or coaches to encroach on the other team's territory. I thought they were affecting our warm up.

"I asked them, maybe not politely, to move away. I don't have an issue with anyone at Arsenal Football Club. It was just in that moment, I don't think that respect was shown to my team."

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior says Jamie Gittens is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines while the availability of Reece James and Pedro Neto is still up in the air, as they recover from Tuesday's defeat to Arsenal.

On Gittens, Rosenior said: "Jamie is more long-term. He's got a tear in his hamstring which is a real shame for him.

"I’ve not had the chance to work with him for long but I know about his career and what an outstanding player he is, so it’s a big loss. It’s too early to say how long he will be out for right now."

I think Rosenior has done very well. Tactically adventurous and he’s had next to no time to train as it’s been game after game. He conducts himself very well, but the test will be when he faves adversity. Let’s see, but I think he may do well.

  5. 'Chelsea can take huge confidence from the game'published at 13:45 GMT

Wolves v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Fran Kirby
Former Chelsea forward on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Chelsea can take huge confidence from the game [against Arsenal]. They really nullified Arsenal and that's not easy to do, especially at the Emirates.

Rosenior hasn't had long to work on this, players are playing out of position and having to learn where to be in and out of possession.

But, you could see they have been working on their shape and their press. They reduced Arsenal to a lot of long balls as they struggled to find their pockets around how compact Chelsea were.

Malo Gusto was coming into midfield, Enzo Fernandez was moving out to the left - these are not their natural positions so they had to learn.

The effort levels that the players put in - you can see the way Rosenior wants them to press aggressively and run back for each other is starting to rub off on them.

You can see the players are buying into it, there were no arms being thrown in the air or complaining at each other.

You look at Fernandez - he covered every blade of grass with his effort levels out of possession and then towards the end of the game was getting involved in possession and driving the team forward.

Those are the players you want your other players to look at as an example and the ones you want in your team.

  6. Chelsea should be encouraged despite Arsenal defeatpublished at 13:40 GMT

Wolves v Chelsea (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

Liam Rosenior flexed his tactical muscles for the first time since his appointment as Chelsea manager four weeks ago during the defeat against Arsenal.

For the first time since March 2024, under Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea lined up with three centre-backs. The system is likely to appeal to supporters, with Thomas Tuchel having used it during the club's 2021 Champions League triumph and Antonio Conte adopting it in the 2017 Premier League title win.

Rosenior also took an additional gamble by leaving three players high up the pitch to counter-attack when Arsenal took corners. The approach gave Arsenal the opportunity to outnumber Chelsea in the box, but committing the same number of players forward would have left them exposed to breaks.

Arsenal adapted by bringing more men back to cover, allowing goalkeeper Robert Sanchez the space to claim crosses - one of his key strengths.

It was in stark contrast to how Chelsea coped in the first leg, conceding from a corner early on and letting in three goals from set-pieces.

For 45 minutes, Arsenal's front four barely touched the ball and Rosenior's adjustments paid off. Enzo Fernandez forced a save just before half-time in a cagey opening period.

It felt harsh for the Blues to lose on the night, but even in defeat, Rosenior can take encouragement from a significantly improved display compared with the first leg at Stamford Bridge, where the tie had effectively slipped away.

  9. ICYMI: Chelsea beaten 4-2 on aggregate by Arsenalpublished at 13:28 GMT

Liam Rosenior's only two defeats so far as Chelsea boss have come against Arsenal in both legs of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

In a tense game at The Emirates on Tuesday night, Kai Havertz's 97th minute strike ensured The Gunners' progression.

Rosenior says he's seeing consistent improvement from his Chelsea side: "Arsenal know they were in for a game, over both ties.

"I think there are clear improvements from the first leg to the second. Yes, it's painful to lose - you want to go through.

"We just need to keep making improvements - which I'm seeing."

Finally, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler was asked about the January transfer window and how he views the business other teams such as Crystal Palace have done compared to his own side:

"I’m not jealous. I’m really happy with the squad we have here. I’m focusing on my squad.

"We know we still have a lot of work to do but we also know there is a lot of potential in the squad and I have a lot of belief - that’s the main thing - the belief I have in this group to achieve the things we want to achieve is unbelievably high because I see them working together, how they support each other, hold each other accountable, therefore I think this togetherness is sometimes more important than spending a lot of money."

"Yasin Ayari is unfortunately out for the game. He had a small shoulder issue [picked up against Everton], it's nothing big but for this game he will be out."

  14. 'James Milner is a role model'published at 13:06 GMT

Brighton v Crystal Palace (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler started his news conference by being asked about James Milner, who can equal the all-time Premier League appearance record - 653 - if he plays against Crystal Palace:

"He will definitely be in the squad. For me, for us, James Milner is a role model, he’s a great character to work with. I think being a Premier League player in this age and still playing on the level he plays and also training on the level he trains. So when you just followed the last two training sessions, it’s incredible what he’s doing so I’m very pleased to work with him.

"I think that will be a special thing for him but he is focused on top of that on the ambitions from the club as well. He wants to be always successful like he was his whole life. "

  19. Good mood around Liverpool againpublished at 10:10 GMT

Liverpool v Man City (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Aadam Patel
    BBC Sport Liverpool reporter

Last week, Arne Slot stressed that his Liverpool side could still do special things if they improved in both boxes. Since then, they have scored ten goals and conceded once against Qarabag and Newcastle and the feeling around the football club has certainly improved, with Slot adamant that the football has been “really good”.

The confirmation that centre-back Jeremy Jacquet will arrive in the summer from Rennes has added to the good mood but in the here and now, Liverpool have a defensive crisis with Slot confirming that Jeremie Frimpong won’t be back for the game against Manchester City on Sunday. Joe Gomez also remains a doubt so Dominik Szoboszlai may start at right-back again.

And of course, Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to offer a much tougher test than Qarabag or Newcastle did. “What a force City still are and always will be,” Slot insisted. It was back at the Etihad Stadium in November when Liverpool were largely “outplayed” by City.

After Slot’s comments this week on The Reds Roundtable, an in-house Liverpool production, where he stressed his desire to play “good football”, all eyes will on Anfield on Saturday and whether Slot's side can entertain.
