So, Southampton and MK Dons extend their unbeaten runs to 11 and 14 matches respectively after 1-0 victories.

Tonda Eckhert's Saints needed a big defensive effort late on to secure the three points that lifts them into the play-offs.

The MK Dons win was perhaps a bit more comfortable but it was a scrappier performance than some of their recent displays. But, either way, it's maximum points that piles pressure on Bromley.

The EFL returns on Friday night, with Preston meeting Stoke, ahead of a busy Saturday. We'll have it all live for you.

Southampton boss Tonda Eckert told BBC Radio Solent: "You will have some games in the season when it comes down to the sacrifice of the players, the desire to win a game of football.

"We had some quality moments up the pitch and just needed to be resilient at the other end - I'm very happy.

"Double figures for Finn [Azaz] now, he's been working for that and now he has to make sure to keep going.

"Southampton has not been known for being a team that suffers and accepts not having the ball for a couple of moments, but being resilient and we are making some good steps in that direction."

And this is how League Two is shaping up after tonight, with MK Dons now just two points behind the leaders, Bromley.

It's a result that is damaging to Colchester's hopes of a play-off charge.

It was a fabulous finish.

I'm disappointed for Norwich City they've haven't managed to get anything out of the game. They've been the better team in the second half.

Striker Aaron Collins, on the winning goal which went in off goalkeeper Matt Macey: "I would've claimed it but I don’t think I’m getting it. But it’s a goal, we’ll take it. The team spirit is top. We’re hunting down that top spot."

I thought the second half was competitive, if anything Colchester probably had the better of the territory, but they never tested the keeper enough.

Yes they battled hard, but in the end MK Dons ran the clock down and got over the line.

I think your looking at seven wins out of eight if you're in with half a chance of the play-offs, maybe even more than that.

They need to take the game to Bromley now, just like they did in the second half.

Colchester will be frustrated that they didn't create enough chances in the second half that their play deserved.

It wasn't pretty - the winning goal was particularly scrappy - but MK Dons have got the three points over the line.

Colchester were spirited and at times looked capable of causing issues for the in-form home side, but they couldn't work the goalkeeper often enough.

Bromley's lead at the top of League Two is cut to two points.

Colchester haven't worked the MK Dons keeper as much as they would have liked to in this second half.

And it does! Finn Azaz's first-half goal and Daniel Peretz's crucial late saves have clinched victory for the Saints. They are into the top six in the Championship for the first time since the opening day.
