Derry City manager Tiernan Lynch says his side's 0-0 draw with Sligo Rovers on Monday was "bittersweet".

The Candystripes are without a win since February, losing three and drawing three of their last six games.

While disappointed his side could not find a winner at the Showgrounds, Lynch feels there were positives to take from the game which leaves his side in seventh place.

"We've been critical over the last number of weeks, the stupid goals we've been conceding and have been crying out to be more resolute," the Derry City boss tole BBC Sport NI.

"The aim of the game today was to get a clean sheet.

"Our first half performance was really good in terms of rolling up our sleeves, grit, hunger and determination. We've been talking about getting back to basics, performing how it means to wear that shirt and our first half performance showed that.

"Second half, we were probably disappointed we weren't more of a threat in the final third so we have to build on one end and get better at the other."

Lynch feels there is "a lack of confidence" in the squad following their difficult run, but "won't criticise" his players following Monday's draw.

"Everyone is not playing with the usual swagger," he continued.

"When you're higher up the league with wins under your belt, that all comes much easier

"We're not there and we're not going to make excuses, but there was an element of the boys not wanting to lose today but we need to build on this performance.

"Our job as a group is to get back to where we think we deserve to be but that's a rebuilding job. We'll take the positives from today and there were positives."
