'No guarantees' for Cardiff despite Scanlon link

Calum Scanlon scored his only senior goal against Cardiff during a loan spell at Millwall last season

Brian Barry-Murphy says Cardiff City may not sign anybody before Monday's transfer deadline despite links with Liverpool youngster Calum Scanlon.
Cardiff have been looking for a left-back to provide competition for Joel Bagan and 20-year-old Scanlon has emerged as a potential target for the League One leaders.
But when asked about a possible move for Scanlon, Barry-Murphy cast doubt over whether Cardiff will make any further signings in this transfer window.
"Obviously I know Calum from Liverpool," the Bluebirds head coach said.
"But it's getting late in the window and when it gets this late, we can't have any guarantees or any certainty that anybody will come to the club before the window shuts on Monday."
Barry-Murphy has said Cardiff are "light" at left-back, with Bagan featuring in 34 of the club's 38 matches in all competitions this season.
Scanlon has made two substitute appearances for Liverpool, in the Europa League in 2023-24, while he featured on four occasions - and scored against Cardiff - during a loan spell at Millwall last season.
The England Under-20 international started his career in Birmingham City's academy before joining Liverpool when aged 15 in 2020.
"I think we have been pretty open and honest about the areas of the squad we'd like to improve [this month]," Barry-Murphy added.
"But there are no guarantees and it's not certain we will be able to do that. We'll just have to wait and see."
Cardiff's only senior signing so far in this window is goalkeeper Harry Tyrer, who arrived from Everton.
Jak Alnwick has left for Huddersfield and fellow keeper Ethan Horvath is expected to join New York Red Bulls, while a number of youngsters have been sent out on loan and Kion Etete has joined St Mirren after returning from a loan at Rotherham United.
