Askey praises Truro City response after keeper goal

Braintree Town goalkeeper Matt Terry equalised against Truro City

Truro City manager John Askey says he is pleased with how his side reacted after Braintree Town goalkeeper Mason Terry scored a stoppage-time equaliser in the National League Cup quarter-final.
Terry went up for a corner in the fifth minute of stoppage time, and after getting his head to it, scored with a follow-up strike after a goalmouth scramble.
It made the score 1-1 at the end of normal time, but Truro went on to win the penalty shootout 3-0 to progress to the semi-finals.
"It's unusual to actually come up and get their head on it," Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall when asked about goalkeepers going up for corners.
"Usually they go up and they never seem to get on the end of it.
"The only one I can remember is Jimmy Glass who scored for Carlisle and kept them up in league football.
"But it was a really good header by him and I think he followed the rebound in as well.
"You're thinking when that happens that maybe it's not going to be our night, but I thought the penalties that we took were excellent."

Truro City's players could face West Ham Under-21s, Boreham Wood or Tamworth in the semi-finals of the National League Cup
The last significant goalkeeper goal in a National League game was Lucas Covolan's stoppage-time equaliser in the 2021 National League promotion final for Torquay United as the Gulls went on to lose that game on penalties.
Having taken a 78th-minute lead through Harry Charlsey, Truro seemed on course to make the last four before Terry struck.
But the Tinners made no mistake in the shootout, as Tyler Harvey, Will Dean and Luke Jephcott converted from the spot as Lewis Walker, James Vennings and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas failed to convert for the Essex side.
"I thought it was a good performance," added Askey.
"We got a team out there today, a lot of them have not had many minutes recently, and I was really pleased with the way that we performed.
"Obviously disappointed to concede the goal last kick of the game, but overall it was a really good run out for us."
