Aribim Pepple's injury-time strike decided a seven-goal thriller in Plymouth Argyle's favour as they beat Bristol Rovers 4-3 to progress to the Vertu Trophy quarter-finals.

Pepple's goal, his fifth of the season, deflected into the net from Ronan Curtis' cross as Argyle edged a see-saw contest at the Memorial Stadium in the fourth minute of added time.

A chaotic evening started with Caleb Watts giving the visitors the lead after only two minutes but back came Steve Evans' side and strikes from Shaq Forde and Fabrizio Cavegn - the latter with his 13th goal of the season - gave the Gas a slender advantage at the interval.

However, a quickfire double from Brendan Galloway and Lorent Tolaj put Argyle back in front before Luke Thomas levelled for the hosts just after the hour.

The game had looked set for penalties until Pepple had the final word.

Meanwhile, Port Vale's mini revival under new boss Jon Brady continued as Ben Waine's 90th-minute goal dumped out two-time winners Bolton Wanderers.

It is now two wins out of two for the new Valiants boss after taking over from Darren Moore, with this coming after their FA Cup third round win over Fleetwood.

The visitors left it late but profited when George Hall cut in before crossing for Waine to send Vale into the last eight.

Another side to spring a shock were League Two high-flyers Swindon Town who defeated League One opponents Luton Town 2-1 at Kenilworth Road.

Filozofe Mabete bagged the winner as Ian Holloway's side carried over their impressive league form into the cup as Jack Wilshere's Hatters fell victim to an impressive comeback.

The defender struck in the 53rd-minute after an equaliser from Will Wright eight minutes before half-time. Jerry Yates had given the hosts a seventh-minute lead from the penalty spot.

It was heartbreak for Simon Weaver's League Two strugglers Harrogate Town as a Josh Stokes double helped Stockport County into the quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory.

Town looked like they were on course for an upset when Tom Cursons grabbed his fifth goal of the season four minutes after the re-start, finishing Jack Muldoon's through ball.

But County hit back 13 minutes from time after boss Dave Challinor made a triple substitution on the hour.

And two of them combined with Benony Andresson finding Stokes, who claimed his first goal for the club with the equaliser, before he went on to grab the winner in added time to send County through.

Veteran striker Billy Sharp grabbed a double as Doncaster Rovers put paid to Fleetwood Town's chances of reaching Wembley this year with a 3-1 home win.

The 39-year-old set the ball rolling when he finished off Glenn Middleton's pass in the 25th minute and Sharp scored his second seven minutes after the interval.

Habeeb Adelakun rounded off a satisfactory evening for the hosts by adding a third, six minutes from time although they were denied a clean sheet when Jordan Davies netted a consolation late on.

Two goals in five minutes towards the end of the first half broke Rotherham United's resistance at the Accu Stadium as Huddersfield Town eased to a 3-0 win

Will Alves opened the scoring in the 36th-minute and that was followed by a second from Lasse Sorensen as the Millers' attempt to kickstart their league campaign with a cup run came to an abrupt halt.

Cameron Ashia claimed a third for the Terriers four minutes from time as Alfie May earned himself an assist.
