Shrewsbury Town striker Trey Ogunsuyi said his first goals in senior football had been "a long time" in the making.
The 19-year-old, on loan from Sunderland, opened his account on his 20th appearance as a professional, with two goals in the 3-2 win over Chesterfield.
He had previously played in nine games for both the Shrews and Falkirk without scoring, after making his Sunderland debut against Stoke City in January 2025.
"When it [the first goal] went in, I felt really good," Ogunsuyi told BBC Radio Shropshire. "I've been waiting for this moment for a long time."
Ogunsuyi was signed by Salop's previous head coach Michael Appleton during the January transfer window, and had only been a substitute under Appleton's replacement, Gavin Cowan.
But he made the most of his first start under Cowan by netting an equaliser in first half injury time at Chesterfield, and then putting them 2-1 ahead in the second half.
And although the play-off chasing Spireites levelled late on, Sam Stubbs grabbed a winner deep into second-half stoppage time as Shrewsbury recorded their sixth win in nine games under Cowan.
"You can see the gaffer knows what he's doing and all the players are buying into what he's telling us," he said.
"The lads have also made me feel welcome, it's a nice place, I'm enjoying playing football here, so hopefully there are more goals and assists to come. I know my family are proud - I'm proud to make them proud."
The improvement under Cowan has seen Shrewsbury move away from the League Two relegation zone and up to 17th, but the manager is not getting carried away.
"My job is to come in here and keep us in the league, there's still work to do," he said.
"The gap [to the bottom two] has gone from two points when we came in, to 13. That's really positive. But until it's done, I will be locked in and won't be getting too excited."
