Former Newport County captain James Clarke has joined Cymru Premier side Cardiff Met as a player-coach on an 18-month deal that keeps him there until mid-2027.

The 36-year-old announced his retirement in January, but will return to the field in Welsh football's top domestic tier.

Cardiff Met say Clarke's signing "represents a significant coup".

In a statement, they added: "In addition to his playing responsibilities, the new signing will step into a coaching role within the Cardiff Met FC first-team setup.

"He is no stranger to the club, having previously worked as youth phase development lead within the Cardiff Met FC Boys' Academy.

"His return marks an important progression in his coaching journey, as he transitions from the academy environment into the senior coaching structure."
