Swindon Town have signed midfielder Ben Middlemas from Premier League side Sunderland on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 21-year-old is manager Ian Holloway's third signing of the January window after Brentford winger Michael Olakigbe and Aston Villa midfielder Aidan Borland arrived on loan.

Middlemas is a product of Sunderland's academy but did not make a first-team appearance for the Black Cats.

He has played 28 times this season for their under-21 team, also captaining the side, and spent time last season on loan with National League North outfit South Shields.
