Barrow goalkeeper Wyll Stanway admits that he was "gutted" to see the departures of head coach Andy Whing and his assistant Craig Pead.

Whing was dismissed after a run of six league games without a win, which leaves the Bluebirds 18th in League Two.

"They were great lads for us, very committed to the football and the town and local community, which was something they really bought into," Stanway told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"It's a massive shame and I'm a bit gutted for them that it's not worked out."

Stanway, 24, the younger brother of Bayern Munich and England star Georgia, established himself as Barrow's number one under Whing's guidance.

But in only his second season at SO Legal Stadium, he has seen a head coach depart mid-campaign for the second time after Stephen Clemence left in January.

Stanway knows that this is the time for the players to pull together to help Barrow climb the table.

"There has to be a bit of serious reflection," he said. "Players need to have a bit of a look at themselves.

"Are we doing enough - are we putting in the performances?

"I know the lads are giving 100% and nobody's not playing the best they can on purpose.

"As long as we stick together, we can get through the tough times and hopefully look forward."
