FC Basel's Swiss Super League match against FC Thun has been postponed following a fire at Basel's St Jakob-Park stadium.

The fire, which occurred on Friday evening, "destroyed" the first-team dressing room, including the players' kits and boots. It also caused "significant damage" to the equipment rooms, coaching and team manager's office, physio and shower facilities, and medical and technical equipment.

No-one was injured in the fire. Its cause has "not yet been clarified", a statement said.

FC Basel, who sit in fourth place in the Swiss Super League, were due to travel to table-toppers FC Thun on Saturday.

"The fire, accompanied by heavy smoke development, caused significant damage and completely destroyed the entire locker room area of the first team," the club said in a statement.

"Due to the damage incurred and no usable game and medical equipment available, the away game against FC Thun is not possible for FCB."

FC Basel confirmed the postponement has been approved by the league, with the fixture set to be rearranged.

St Jakob-Park hosted the 2016 Europa League final, in which Liverpool played Sevilla, and the final of the 2025 Women's Euros between England and Spain.
